TO COLLECT, PRESERVE, RESTORE AND DISPLAY HISTORICAL ITEMS RELATED TO CORYELL COUNTY HISTORY IN A MUSEUM WHICH DISPLAYS THE RICH HERITAGE OF THE AREA, FOR THE EDUCATION OF ALL RESIDENTS AND TOURISTS OF CORYELL COUNTY.

THE MUSEUM IS OPEN 30 HOURS EACH WEEK AND HAS APPROXIMATELY 2000 VISITORS EACH YEAR. TOURS ARE PROVIDED TO SCHOOL CHILDREN, COLLEGE STUDENTS AND CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS. THE MUSEUM PROVIDES MEETING AREAS AND RECEPTION ROOMS AT A NOMINAL FEE FOR LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS, CIVIC GROUPS, FAMILY REUNIONS AND WEDDING PARTIES.
THE MUSEUM HOSTS SPECIAL EXHIBITS HIGHLIGHTING RESIDENTS OF CORYELL COUNTY AT VARIOUS TIMES DURING THE YEAR AND LOCAL ARTISTS' WORKS ARE DISPLAYED IN ONE OF THE ROOMS. THE MUSEUM ALSO HOSTS BOOK SIGNINGS FOR LOCAL AUTHORS AND SPONSORS THE ANNUAL SPUR FESTIVAL, CELEBRATING GATESVILLE'S DESIGNATION AS THE SPUR CAPITAL OF TEXAS. THE MUSEUM IS HOME TO THE MITCHELL SPUR COLLECTION.
THE ORGANIZATION HELD AN ANNUAL VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON AND VARIOUS FUND RAISERS INCLUDING LUNCHEONS AND BAKE SALES TO RAISE FUNDS TO OPERATE THE MUSEUM. THE MUSEUM CONTINUES TO ADD NEW ITEMS TO THEIR COLLECTION DUE TO DONATIONS GIVEN BY THE COMMUNITY.ALSO, THE MUSEUM SCANS AND DIGITIZES PHOTOGRAPHS AND PAPER DOCUMENTS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH AND POTENTIAL INTERNET ACCESS. ALSO, THE ROOF WAS RECENTLY REPLACED ALONG WITH A FIRE AND SMOKE ALARM SYSTEM.
