THE PURPOSE OF THE HOUSTON NORTHWEST CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IS TO PROMOTE AREA BUSINESSES AND ENHANCE MEMBER VALUE THROUGH REGULAR NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES, COMMUNITY LUNCHEONS, BUSINESS TRAINING VIRTUAL EVENTS, AND ECONOMIC AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT FORUMS. THE CHAMBER ALSO LOBBIES STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT FOR LEGISLATION WHICH IMPROVES BUSINESS CLIMATE, AREA INFRASTRUCTURE AND TRANSPORTATION. IN 2021, THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CONTINUED TO BE IMPACTED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC BY HOSTING ALL ITS EVENTS VIRTUALLY, INCLUDING ITS ECONOMIC OUTLOOK FORUM FOR THE FIRST HALF OF THE YEAR. HOWEVER, IN JUNE THE CHAMBER RETURNED TO IN-PERSON NETWORKING EVENTS, RIBBON CUTTINGS, AND SPEAKER LUNCHEONS. BY THE END OF THE YEAR, OPERATIONS AND PROGRAMMING HAD MOSTLY RETURNED TO PRE-PANDEMIC NORMAL, WITH A HEALTHY PARTICIPATION BY ITS MEMBERS AND AREA BUSINESSES.
GROW NORTHWEST IS THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BRANCH OF THE HOUSTON NORTHWEST CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. PRIMARY GOALS INCLUDE: ATTRACTING NEW BUSINESS TO THE AREA, IMPROVING SAFETY & SECURITY, AND MARKETING AND BRANDING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. GROW NORTHWEST'S PRIORITY INITIATIVE IS THE CREATION OF A MANAGEMENT DISTRICT ALONG THE PRIMARY COMMERCIAL CORRIDOR OF ITS SERVICE. THIS THOROUGHFARE HAS EXPERIENCED SIGNIFICANT ECONOMIC BLIGHT BROUGHT ON BY CRIME, VAGRANCY AND BUSINESS CLOSURES. A MANAGEMENT DISTRICT IS A MECHANISM THAT GENERATES RESOURCES THROUGH AN ASSESSMENT OF THE COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES WITHIN THE DISTRICT TO BRING ABOUT REVITALIZATION BY ENGAGING IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS ACTIVITIES. GROW NORTHWEST ASSISTS BUSINESSES LOOKING FOR SITES TO LOCATE NEW BUSINESSES INTO THE AREA, AND OFFERING CONDUCTING MARKET AND ECONOMIC RESEARCH.
