THE MISSION OF THE YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION (YMCA OF THE COASTAL BEND) IS TO PUT JUDEO-CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES INTO PRACTICE THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT BUILD HEALTHY SPIRIT, MIND, AND BODY FOR ALL.

HEALTHY LIVING - THE Y IS A NATIONAL LEADING VOICE ON HEALTH AND WELL-BEING. WE BRING FAMILIES CLOSER TOGETHER, ENCOURAGE GOOD HEALTH, AND FOSTER CONNECTIONS THROUGH HEALTHY LIVING IN SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY. AS A RESULT, OVER 4,512 YMCA OF THE COASTAL BEND MEMBER AND NONMEMBER PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS ARE RECEIVING SUPPORT, GUIDANCE, AND RESOURCES THEY NEED TO ACHIEVE GREATER HEALTH. OUR YMCA OFFERS FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT IN THE FIELD OF HEALTH ENHANCEMENT, PERSONAL FITNESS EVALUATIONS AND CLASSES THAT PROMOTE HEALTHY LIFESTYLES THOUGH REGULAR EXERCISE. YMCA HEALTH & WELLNESS PROGRAMS INCLUDE GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES, STRENGTH TRAINING PROGRAMS, PERSONAL TRAINING, ADULT SPORTS AND PROGRAMS TAILORED FOR ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS. OUR PROGRAMS ARE ACCESSIBLE, AFFORDABLE AND OPEN TO PEOPLE OF ALL FAITHS, BACKGROUNDS, ABILITIES AND INCOME LEVELS. SCHOLARSHIPS AND SUBSIDIES ARE OFFERED TO ALL INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN NEED OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. IN 2020, THE YMCA OF THE COASTAL BEND PROVIDED $27,341 IN FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO OVERCOME ECONOMIC BARRIERS TO OUR PARTICIPATION IN Y MEMBERSHIP.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT - THE YMCA OF THE COASTAL BEND IS COMMITTED TO NURTURING THE POTENTIAL OF EVERY CHILD AND TEEN. WE BELIEVE THAT EVERY CHILD DESERVES THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISCOVER WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY CAN ACHIEVE. OUR PROGRAMS HELP YOUNG PEOPLE CULTIVATE THE VALUES, SKILLS, AND RELATIONSHIPS THAT LEAD TO POSITIVE BEHAVIORS, BETTER HEALTH AND EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT. THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDE AFTER-SCHOOL CHILDCARE, AS WELL AS SUMMER AND HOLIDAY CAMPS FOR SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN, YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAMS, AND AQUATICS PROGRAMS. LICENSED CHILDCARE IS PROVIDED THROUGH OUR Y AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM AT 1 SCHOOL IN THE DISTRICT. SUMMER AND HOLIDAY CAMPS SERVE YOUTH AT 1 SITE ON THE NORTH SIDE OF CORPUS CHRISTI. Y YOUTH SPORTS EMPHASIZE THE DEVELOPMENT OF SKILLS, HEALTH AND FITNESS, SAFETY, COOPERATION, SELF-ESTEEM AND RESPECT FOR OTHERS. OUR AQUATICS PROGRAMS PROMOTE WATER SAFETY, SKILLS DEVELOPMENT, SELF-ESTEEM AND HEALTHY HABITS. WE HAD 914 CHILDREN ATTEND CAMP AND AN ADDITIONAL 14 WERE ENROLLED IN OUR AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM. IN ADDITION, WE HAD 215 YOUTH PARTICIPANTS IN SPORTS. THE YMCA PROVIDED $9,460 IN FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE SO THAT CHILDREN COULD PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAMS LISTED ABOVE.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY - THE YMCA OF THE COASTAL BEND BELIEVES IN GIVING BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY. INCLUDED IN OUR OUTREACH EFFORTS, WE HOST A TEEN LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. OUR YMCA LITERACY PROGRAM PROVIDED 18 STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE TUTORING SERVICES ADMINISTERED AT GEORGE EVANS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. ALSO, THROUGH OUR YOUTH AND GOVERNMENT CLUBS, 17 TEENS BUILT SKILLS THROUGH HANDS-ON PARTICIPATION IN MOCK LEGISLATIVE, JUDICIAL, AND MEDIA ACTIVITIES AT LOCAL REGIONAL AND STATE-WIDE EVENTS. THE YMCA OF THE COASTAL BEND PROVIDED MORE THAN $2,760 IN FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO THE AT-RISK YOUTH IN THESE PROGRAMS TO ATTEND THE YMCA.
THE YMCA OF CORPUS CHRISTI WAS FIRST STARTED IN THE COASTAL BEND AREA IN 1886 AND LATER INCORPORATED IN 1939 AS AN AFFILIATE OF THE NATIONAL YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION. THE YMCA PUTS CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES INTO PRACTICE THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT BUILD A HEALTHY SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY FOR ALL. THE YMCA OF CORPUS CHRISTI IS PRIMARILY SUPPORTED THROUGH CONTRIBUTIONS, MEMBERSHIP AND PROGRAM FEES AND OPERATES IN THE CORPUS CHRISTI, TX AREA. THE YMCA PROVIDES PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN, ADULTS AND FAMILIES.
