LEGAL ACTION: JUSTICE IN MOTION CONNECTED AND ADVISED LEGAL ADVOCATES ACROSS THE U.S., MEXICO, AND CENTRAL AMERICA TO ENSURE THAT MIGRANT RIGHTS DO NOT STOP AT THE BORDER. WE WORKED ON 735 TOTAL COLLABORATIONS IN THE PAST YEAR, IMPACTING OVER 2,000 MIGRANTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THAT WORK INCLUDED 186 PROTECTION CASES TO HELP PEOPLE FIND SAFETY IN THE U.S. THROUGH ASYLUM, SPECIAL IMMIGRANT JUVENILE STATUS, AND OTHER FORMS OF IMMIGRATION PROTECTION, 71 CASES TO HELP EXPEDITE THE SAFE RELEASE OF CHILDREN FROM U.S. IMMIGRATION CUSTODY, AND HUNDREDS OF CASES TO HELP FIND AND REUNIFY PARENTS AND CHILDREN SEPARATED AT THE U.S. - MEXICO BORDER.
DEFENDER NETWORK: JUSTICE IN MOTION CONTINUED TO TRAIN AND COORDINATE A NETWORK OF 47 HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS MEXICO, GUATEMALA, EL SALVADOR, HONDURAS, AND NICARAGUA, SO THAT THEY CAN BETTER SERVE MIGRANTS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. WE PROVIDED 15 VIRTUAL TRAINING EVENTS FOR DEFENDERS TO DEEPEN THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF TOPICS INCLUDING WORKER RIGHTS, IMMIGRATION POLICY UNDER THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION, AND HOW TO PREPARE STRONG AFFIDAVITS TO HELP MIGRANTS SEEKING ASYLUM. WE BUILT A NEW ONLINE SPACE FOR DEFENDERS TO SHARE UPDATES AND RESOURCES AND ENABLE MORE DIRECT COMMUNICATION ACROSS THE NETWORK. WE BEGAN A MULTI-YEAR EXPANSION TO ADD NEW PARTNERS TO THE NETWORK IN KEY STRATEGIC AREAS THROUGHOUT NORTHERN CENTRAL AMERICA AND MEXICO.
POLICY ADVOCACY: JUSTICE IN MOTION COLLABORATED WITH HUMAN RIGHTS ALLIES ACROSS NORTH AND CENTRAL AMERICA TO SOLVE THE SYSTEMIC PROBLEMS THAT THREATEN MIGRANT RIGHTS. WE MAINTAINED AND UPDATED VISA PAGES: TEMPORARY FOREIGN WORKER VISAS, THE LEADING RESOURCE FOR ADVOCATES AND POLICYMAKERS ABOUT U.S. MIGRANT LABOR PROGRAMS. WE PROVIDED INPUT ON THE DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE U.S. GOVERNMENT'S FAMILY REUNIFICATION EFFORTS, UTILIZING OUR EXTENSIVE ON-THE-GROUND EXPERIENCE TO ADVOCATE FOR THE UNIQUE NEEDS AND CHALLENGES FACING PARENTS WHO WERE DEPORTED WITHOUT THEIR CHILDREN DURING THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION.
