THE MISSION OF VITA, INC (VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTORS TEACHING ADULTS, INC) IS TO PROVIDE ADULT LEARNERS WITH LITERACY AND OTHER ACADEMIC SKILLS NECESSARY TO SUCCESSFULLY PURSUE EDUCATIONAL, VOCATIONAL AND PERSONAL GOALS.

PROVIDE ONE-TO-ONE AND SMALL GROUP EDUCATION FOR UNEDUCATED ADULTS. INDIVIDUAL TUTORING SESSIONS OFFERED AT A TIME AND GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION CONVENIENT TO THE ADULT LEARNERS IN A NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER. SMALL GROUP CLASSES ARE OFFERED AT EITHER OF TWO ADULT EDUCATION CENTERS OPERATED BY VITA AND INCLUDE INSTRUCTION IN FAMILY LITERACY, WORKPLACE LITERACY, AND HISET (HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY TEST) PREPARATION. DURING THE PROGRAM YEAR, 1091 ADULT LEARNERS ENROLLED, 105 STUDENTS WITH EMPLOYMENT AS A GOAL WERE RETAINED ON THE JOB, 50 STUDENTS EARNED THEIR HISET DIPLOMA. THE VITA ESL (ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE) PROGAM PROVIDES INSTRUCTION IN LANGUAGE, CULTURE, ACADEMIC CONTENT, LIFE SKILLS, CIVIC PARTICIPATION, FAMILY EDUCATION AND CITIZENSHIP TO 238 ESL STUDENTS SERVED DURING THE YEAR.
