ADULT BASIC EDUCATION (ABE): TUTORING IN BASIC EDUCATION, WHICH CONSISTS OF READING, WRITING, AND MATH. OUR TUTORS WORK WITHIN EACH STUDENTS' LIMITATIONS, SOMETIMES FOCUSING ON MORE THAN ONE SUBJECT WHEN BOTH ARE NEEDED. THE BULK OF OUR STUDENTS ARE ABE STUDENTS, EQUALING APPROXIMATELY 85% OF OUR STUDENT POPULATION. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (EL): HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH OUR ESL STUDENTS IS A REWARDING EXPERIENCE. SIMPLE THINGS SUCH AS READING ARE OFTEN TAKEN FOR GRANTED BY ENGLISH SPEAKERS. THESE STUDENTS ARE WORKING ON IMPROVING THEIR ENGLISH IN ORDER TO GET DIFFERENT JOBS AND IMPROVE THEIR FAMILY SITUATIONS, AND OTHERS JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO READ AT HOME WITH THEIR CHILDREN. CITIZENSHIP: PREPARING FOR A CITIZENSHIP EXAM FOR THE UNITED STATES IS TIME CONSUMING BOTH FOR THE STUDENTS AND OUR TUTORS. CCVL HAS WORKED WITH STUDENTS OVER THE YEARS. IN PREPARING FOR THE CITIZENSHIP EXAM, WITH VOLUNTEERS SPENDING HOURS REVIEWING INFORMATION AND PRACTICING FOR THE EXAM WITH THE STUDENTS.
