READY READERS SHARED THE JOY AND POWER OF LITERACY WITH MORE THAN 13,400 CHILDREN IN LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES IN THE ST. LOUIS REGION DURING THE 2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR. WORKING WITH 1,018 CLASSROOMS, STAFF AND MORE THAN 200 VOLUNTEERS ENGAGED CHILDREN IN EARLY LITERACY PROGRAMMING DESIGNED TO BUILD AND STRENGTHEN EARLY LITERACY FOUNDATIONS, CONNECT WITH CHILDREN IN VALUABLE DISCUSSION EXPERIENCES, AND DEVELOP STRONG, TRUSTING RELATIONSHIPS WITH TRAUMA-INFORMED ADULTS. WE ALSO DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 100,000 HIGH-QUALITY, NEW BOOKS TO CHILDREN, TEACHERS, AND FAMILIES.(SEE SCH O FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION)THE READY READERS PROGRAM SERVES SITES/SCHOOLS WHERE AT LEAST 70% OF THEIR STUDENTS/FAMILIES ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FEDERAL FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH BENEFITS.DURING 2021-22, THE INEQUITIES OF OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM CONTINUED TO BE MORE OBVIOUS THAN EVER BEFORE, AS CHILDREN, FAMILIES, AND TEACHERS EXPERIENCED THE TRAUMA OF THE PANDEMIC AND LOSS OF LEARNING THAT OCCURRED. READY READERS FOUND NEW WAYS TO MEET THE NEEDS IN OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH EXPANDING OUR DELIVERY MODELS TO ALLOW GREATER FLEXIBILITY AND PARTICIPATION IN THE READY READERS PROGRAM.
