TO COORDINATE THE ACTIVITIES OF THE VARIOUS SOCIETIES FOR SURGERY OF THE HAND THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, AND IN THIS WAY INCREASE AND SPREAD KNOWLEDGE OF SURGERY OF THE HAND.

THE FEDERATION CONDUCTS A MAJOR SCIENTIFIC EVENT EVERY THREE YEARS (THE "CONGRESS"). THE CONGRESS INCLUDES SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS AND A FULL SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM INCLUDING LECTURES AND PRESENTATIONS. ATTENDEES INCLUDE MEMBERS OF THE FEDERATION'S MEMBER ORGANIZATIONS AND TRAINEE SURGEONS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. IN 2019, THIS CONGRESS WAS HELD IN BERLIN, GERMANY (JUNE 17TH - JUNE 21ST) AND WAS RUN IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE LOCAL SOCIETY. A COMBINED ATTENDANCE OF SURGEONS AND THERAPISTS TOTALLED OVER 4,000 DELEGATES FROM 92 COUNTRIES. IN 2022 THE NEXT SCIENTIFIC CONGRESS WAS HELD IN LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, (JUNE 6TH-10TH) AND ATTRACTED 3,765 REGISTRANTS FROM 91 COUNTRIES. THE ACTIVITY FROM THIS CONGRESS WILL BE REPORTED IN THE 2022 FORM 990.
THE FEDERATION SUPPORTS THE DEVELOPMENT AND ADVANCEMENT OF THE SCIENCE OF HAND SURGERY WORLDWIDE BY MAKING GRANTS TO OTHER NOT-FOR-PROFIT HAND SURGERY SOCIETIES TO FUND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND ACTIVITIES LIKELY TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF HAND SURGERY THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. IN 2021 THE IFSSH ENABLED HAND SURGEONS TO ATTEND THE "INTERNATIONAL COURSE ON COMPLEX WRIST RECONSTRUCTION". PREVIOUSLY APPROVED GRANTS WERE UTILISED IN 2021 TO ESTABLISH THE WEST AFRICAN HAND SURGERY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME, TO CONTINUE EDUCATION IN KENYA AND TO SUPPORT THE COMBINED COLOMBIAN-VENEZUELAN HAND SURGERY CONGRESS.
THE FEDERATION PUBLISHES AN EZINE (E-MAGAZINE) WHICH INCLUDES SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES CONTRIBUTED BY VARIOUS INDIVIDUAL SURGEONS, MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS, PROFESSORS AND OTHERS.
