ST FRANCIS ANIMAL RESCUE OF VENICE IS A 501(C) LIMITED ADMISSION, FREE ROAMING, NO-KILL CAT RESCUE. ESTABLISHED IN 1994 WE SUPPORT 100+ CATS AND KITTENS ON-SITE AND 75 IN SHORT AND LONG TERM FOSTER CARE. APPROXIMATELY 30-40 CATS ARE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION, WITH THE REMAINDER IN OUR CARE PERMANENTLY OR IN LONGTERM CARE. THE SHELTER IS FUNDED BY DONATIONS AND A THRIFT STORE. WE HAVE A SMALL TEAM OF EMPLOYEES TO MANAGE, MEDICATE AND CLEAN AND A DEDICATED VOLUNTEER TEAM OF APPROXIMATELY 50 INDIVIDUALS THAT DO WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO KEEP OUR SHELTER AND THRIFT STORE OPERATIONAL. CATS IN OUR CARE RECEIVE MEDICAL TREATMENT FROM LOCAL VETERINARIANS. FOSTER CARE FAMILIES CARE FOR KITTENS UNTIL THEY ARE READY FOR ADOPTION AND OTHERS HELP TO SOCIALIZE CATS WHO OTHERWISE WOULD BE CONSIDERED UNADOPTABLE. WE CONSIDER OURSELVES A RESCUE AND TRY TO FOCUS ON HELPING CATS WHO, WITHOUT RESCUE AND CARE WOULD NOT BE ADOPTABLE AND WOULD LIKELY BE EUTHANIZED. WE ASSIST OUR COMMUNITY WITH EDUCATION ON CAT B

SFAR HAS ADOPTED OVER 1000 CATS IN THE LAST 5 YEARS AND WE HAVE HELPED THOUSANDS OF OTHER CATS WITH OWNER EDUCATION AND BY PROVIDING FOOD IN OUR COMMUNITY.ALL CATS IN OUR CARE ARE SPAYED OR NEUTERED BEFORE LEAVING THE SHELTER. WE HAVE TAKEN AN INTEREST IN SAVING CATS AND KITTENS WITH MANGE AND RINGWORM, THESE CATS ARE TYPICALLY EUTHANIZED BY OTHER FACILITIES DUE TO THE TIME AND EFFORT REQUIRED FOR TREATMENT.
