THE WILSON RESEARCH FOUNDATION IS THE PRIMARY SUPPORT FOR METHODIST REHABILITATION CENTER'S CLINICAL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION PROGRAM" CENTER FOR NEUROSCIENCE AND NEUROLOGICAL RECOVERY". THE END-GOAL IS TO ACHIEVE BETTER OUTCOMES FOR PATIENTS, TO DETERMINE WHAT STRATEGIES WORK BEST, IN WHOM AND WHY, FOR RECOVER TO EACH PATIENT'S POTENTIAL. OVER THE YEARS, THE FOUNDATION HAS RAISED AND GIVEN MORE THAN $10 MILLION IN GRANTS TO SUPPORT CLINICAL (HUMAN) RESEARCH AND PROVIDE THERAPISTS EDUCATION/TRAINING IN THE USE OF INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES. THE RESEARCH PROGRAM HAS 4,500 FEET OF DEDICATED SPACE AT METHODIST, INCLUDING A STATE-OF-THE-ART NEURO ROBOTICS LAB, MOTION ANALYSIS LAB AND VARIOUS THERAPY SYSTEMS ON THE PATIENT FLOORS THAT SERVE DUAL ROLES AS RESEARCH AND THERAPY TOOLS. THIS WORK HAS RESULTED IN OVER 300 PUBLICATIONS IN MEDICAL JOURNALS AND PRESENTATIONS AT MANY CONFERENCES. A MAJOR CONTRIBUTION OF OUR RESEARCH INVOLVES DEVELOPING MORE EFFECTIVE WAYS TO CONTROL MUSCLE SPASTICITY, A COMMON, DEBILITATING COMPLICATION OF SERIOUS STROKE, TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY OR SPINAL CORD INJURY. THE RESEARCH PROGRAM ELEVATES CARE AND OUTCOMES AT METHODIST REHABILITATION CENTER. PROVIDED A GRANT TO METHODIST REHABILITATION CENTER FOR ITS' CLINICAL RESEARCH PROGRAM, WHICH ALSO PROVIDES EDUCATION AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER INTO CLINICAL PRACTICE, AS IT PERTAINS TO RECOVERY FROM DISABLING ILLNESSES AND INJURIES, SUCH AS STROKE, BRAIN INJURY, SPINAL CORD INJURY AND LOSS OF LIMB.
