SCHOLARSHIPS AND EDUCATION: ROTARY INTERNATIONAL DIRECTS OUR EFFORTS IN SIX AREAS TO ENHANCE OUR LOCAL AND GLOBAL IMPACT. ONE OF OUR MOST SUCCESSFUL AND SUSTAINABLE AREAS OF FOCUS IS SUPPORTING EDUCATION. OUR GOAL IS TO HELP PROMISING STUDENTS BECOME LEADERS AND EXPERTS IN FIELDS FOCUSED ON SUSTAINABLE CHANGE THROUGH SCHOLARSHIPS. ALONG THE WAY, WE HOPE TO CULTIVATE RELATIONSHIPS IN OUR COMMUNITY AND MENTOR SOME OUTSTANDING SCHOLARS. FOR A LIST OF OUR SCHOLARSHIPS, PLEASE REFERENCE SCHEDULE O, PAGE 1.
WE SPENT $38,120 IN SUPPORT OF THE HEART TO HEART PROGRAM, WHICH IS A COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN 27 ROTARY DISTRICTS IN THE US AND 2 DISTRICTS IN CENTRAL MEXICO. THIS WORK PROVIDES HUMANITARIAN SERVICE, PRIMARILY THROUGH ROTARY GLOBAL GRANTS. EXAMPLES OF THESE GRANTS INCLUDE KIDNEY TRANSPLANTS, PACEMAKERS, BASIC LEARNING SKILLS WORKSHOPS, NEUROLOGICAL CENTER EQUIPMENT, CLEFT LIP AND PALATE SURGERY EQUIPMENT, LOW COST SHELTERS, POSITIVE PEACE TRAINING, AND DEVELOPMENT, SCHOOL RENOVATIONS AND PURCHASES OF WHEELCHAIRS. THE BALANCE OF THE PROGRAM EXPENSES WERE FOR TRAINING, EXPENSES OF THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR FOR MAKING INSPIRATIONAL VISITS TO VARIOUS CLUBS, AND OTHER COMMITTEE EXPENSES.
YOUTH INTERACT CONFERENCE: INTERACT IS A ROTARY-SPONSORED SERVICE CLUB FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGES 12-18. THE PROGRAM GIVES ITS MEMBERS (INTERACTORS) AN OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN MEANINGFUL SERVICE PROJECTS WHILE DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP SKILS, MEETING NEW FRIENDS AND HAVING FUN. THE CONFERENCE IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR AND A TIME FOR CLUBS TO COME TOGETHER AND CELEBRATE THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF INTERACT OBJECTIVES SUCH AS: ENCOURAGE AND PRACTICE THOUGHTFULNESS AND HELPFULNESS TO OTHERS CREATE AN AWARENESS OF THE IMPORTANCE OF HOME AND FAMILY BUILD RESPECT FOR THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS BASED ON RECOGNITION OF THE WORTH OF EACH INDIVIDUAL EMPHASIZE ACCEPTANCE OF INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY AS THE BASIS OF PERSONAL SUCCESS, COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT & GROUP ACHIEVEMENT OPEN AVENUES OF PERSONAL AND GROUP ACTION LEADING TO THE ADVANCEMENT OF INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING AND GOODWILL OF ALL PEOPLES RECOGNIZE AND DEVELOP CONSTRUCTIVE LEADERSHIP AND PERSONAL INTEGRITY.
DISTRICT 6780 CONFERENCE AND GOLF TOURNAMENT: EACH ROTARY DISTRICT HOLDS AN ANNUAL DISTRICT CONFERENCE WHICH CONSISTS OF THE ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING AND OTHER SESSIONS. THE CONFERENCE IS DESIGNED TO INSPIRE AND INFORM ROTARIANS AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL, WHILE ADVANCING THE STRATEGIC GOALS OF ROTARY INTERNATIONAL, THE DISTRICT AND THE ROTARY FOUNDATION. THE SILENT AUCTION HELD AT THE DISTRICT CONFERENCE, ALONG WITH THE DISTRICT GOLF TOURNAMENT, RAISE FUNDS FOR THE ROTARY FOUNDATION'S POLIO PLUS MISSION OF ERADICATING POLIO, TOGETHER THESE 2 EVENTS RAISED $15,535 FOR THIS CAUSE.
