PUBLIC POLICY PROGRAMS IN ORDER TO PROTECT & PROMOTE THE AGRICULTURE INDUSTRY THE HAWKINS CO FARM BUREAU THROUGH ITS STRUCTURE OF VOLUNTEER LEADERS SUPPORTS PUBLIC POLICY EFFORTS AT THE LOCAL, STATE & NATIONAL LEVEL. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH BOTH LEGISLATIVE & REGULATORY MONITORING COMMUNICATIONS WITH MEMBERS & PUBLIC AWARENESS PROGRAMS ABOUT FARMING & RURAL LIFE & PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT THE AGRICULTURE INDUSTRY. VOLUNTEER BOARD MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN THE SPONSORSHIP OF MEET THE CANDIDATE ACTIVITIES & YEARLY POLICY MEETINGS WITH THEIR LEGISLATORS TO EDUCATE THEM ABOUT AG POLICY & HOW THE INDUSTRY IS IMPACTED BY LAWMAKERS.

A HIGHLY DEVELOPED COMMITTEE STRUCTURE PROVIDES LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEMBERS THROUGH MEETINGS, REGULAR COMMUNICATIONS, AND AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT THE HAWKINS COUNTY FARM BUREAU SUPPORTS YOUTH AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATIONS BOTH FINANCIALLY AND WITH VOLUNTEER HOURS. THE HAWKINS COUNTY FARM BUREAU PUTS ON A FARM DAY WHERE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN COME AND GET TO VISIT AND TOUR A WORKING FARM. THERE ARE EXHIBITS THERE THAT SHOW HOW LIVESTOCK ARE TAKEN CARE OF HOW OUR FOOD IS GROWN AND HARVESTED AND WHAT LIFE ON A FARM IS LIKE AND THE DETAILS THAT GO INTO PROVIDING THEIR FOOD AND FIBER. THIS IS AN EYEOPENING EXPERIENCE FOR THE CHILDREN TO LEARN HOW IMPORTANT AGRICULTURE IS TO LIFE AND HOW MUCH AGRICULTURE IS PART OF OUR EVERYDAY LIVES.
