THE NORTH CAROLINA FARMWORKERS' PROJECT (NCFP) EXISTS TO PROMOTE THE ORGANIZATION OF FARMWORKERS SO THAT THEY CAN FIND SOLUTIONS TO THEIR PROBLEMS COLLECTIVELY, TO ENCOURAGE POLITICAL PARTICIPATION AND TO GIVE FARMWORKERS THE TOOLS TO WORK TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVING CONDITIONS.

IN 2021 NORTH CAROLINA FARMWORKERS' PROJECT (NCFP) REACHED OVER 5,000 PATIENTS WITH SERVICES. WE PROVIDED ENABLING SERVICES (INCLUDING HEALTH EDUCATION, CASE MANAGEMENT, INTERPRETATION, TRANSPORTATION AND/OR LINKAGE TO RESOURCES) DURING 8,300 ENCOUNTERS WITH THESE PATIENTS. WE ALSO PROVIDED CLOSE TO 800 PRIMARY MEDICAL CARE VISITS. WE FACILITATED ACCESS TO DENTAL APPOINTMENTS FOR CLOSE TO 200 PATIENTS, PROVIDING INTERPRETATION, TRANSPORTATION AND CASE MANAGEMENT AS NEEDED. WE ALSO FACILITATED BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CARE FOR 75 PATIENTS.
NCFP EXPANDED OUR TELEHEALTH PROGRAM,WHICH WAS A GREAT BACKUP PLAN FOR FARMWORKERS WHO COULD NOT ATTEND A CLINIC IN PERSON. NCFP ALSO PROVIDED EDUCATION REGARDING HEALTH INSURANCE OPTIONS TO ELIGIBLE PATIENTS AND PROVIDED ENROLLMENT ASSISTANCE AS NEEDED. NCFP WAS ABLE TO OFFER RAPID TESTING ON DEMAND THANKS TO OUR CLINIC PARTNERSHIPS AND ASSISTANCE FROM THE STATE, WHICH ENABLED US TO DO COVID TEST AFTER HOURS IN FARMWORKER CAMPS AND MORE QUICKLY IDENTIFY CASES TO HLEP PREVENT SPREAD AND GET FARMWORKERS MEDICAL CARE. WE HOSTED NUMEROUS VACCINATION EVENTS. THE HIGHLIGHT OF THOSE EVENTS WAS THE VACCINATION OF MORE THAN 100 HAITIAN FARMWORKERS IN WHITEVILLE.
THE FARMWORKER HEALTH CLINIC PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO ENSURE THAT FARMWORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF AND ACCESS TO HEALTH SERVICES FOR ACUTE CARE, CHRONIC ILLNESS AND PREVENTIVE CARE. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BENSON AREA MEDICAL EENTER (BAMC), CLINICS ARE OFFERED SPECIFICALLY FOR FARMWORKERS ONE NIGHT A WEEK AND A MOBILE MEDICAL UNIT PROVIDES MEDICAL SERVICES AND OVER-THE-COUNTER MEDICINES TO WORKERS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS. NC FARM WORKERS' PROJECT (NCFP) REACHES OUT TO FARMWORKERS TO INFORM THEM OF THE SERVICES AVAILABLE, PERFORM BASIC HEALTH ASSESSMENTS AND EDUCATE FARMWORKERS ABOUT VARIOUS HEALTH TOPICS SUCH AS GREEN TOBACCO SICKNESS, HEAT ILLNESS, PESTICIDE SAFETY AND SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES THROUGH INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP PRESENTATIONS. NCFP SCHEDULES APPOINTMENTS AS NEEDED AND PROVIDS TRANSPORTATION TO THE CLINICS, INTERPRETATION SERVICES, AND FOLLOW-UP VISITS TO ENSURE THAT PRESCRIBED MEDICATION AND REFERRALS TO SPECIALISTS HAVE BEEN OBTAINED.
