PUBLIC POLICY PROGRAMS IN ORDER TO PROTECT & PROMOTE THE AGRICULTURE INDUSTRY THE COCKE CO FARM BUREAU THROUGH ITS STRUCTURE OF VOLUNTEER LEADERS SUPPORTS PUBLIC POLICY EFFORTS AT THE LOCAL STATE AND NATIONAL LEVEL. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH BOTH LEGISLATIVE & REGULATORY MONITORING, COMMUNICATIONS WITH MEMBERS & PUBLIC AWARENESS PROGRAMS ABOUT FARMING & RURAL LIFE & PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT THE AGRICULTURE INDUSTRY. VOLUNTEER BOARD MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN SPONSORSHIP OF MEET THE CANDIDATE ACTIVITIES & YEARLY POLICY MEETINGS WITH THEIR LEGISLATORS TO EDUCATE THEM ABOUT AG POLICY & HOW THE INDUSTRY IS IMPACTED BY LAWMAKERS.


AGRICULTURE LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES THE COCKE COUNTY FARM BUREAU STRUCTURE OF ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP PROVIDES MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEMBER LEADERS TO KEEP ABREAST OF ISSUES THAT AFFECT AGRICULTURE. THEY PARTICIPATE IN OTHER LOCAL ACRICULTURAL CIVIC & COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. LEADERS ATTEND DISTRICT STATE & NATIONAL CONFERENCES TO NETWORK WITH FARMERS & OTHER AGRICULTURALISTS TO LEARN ABOUT CURRENT ISSUES FACING AGRICULTURE. A HIGHLY DEVELOPED COMMITTEE STRUCTURE PROVIDES LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEMBERS THROUGH MEETINGS, REGULAR COMMUNICATIONS AND AGRICULTURE ACTIVITIES.


YOUTH LEADERSHIP/EDUCATION ACTIVITIES THE COCKE COUNTY FARM BUREAU DOES SEVERAL THINGS IN THE COUNTY TO CREATE AWARENESS TO THE YOUTH ABOUT AGRICULTURE. THE COCKE COUNTY FARM BUREAU HOSTS A FARM DAY WHERE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN GET TO VISIT A WORKING FARM AND SEE AN ACTUAL FARM OPERATION AND WHERE THEIR FOOD AND FIBER COMES FROM AND THE WORK THAT GOES IN TO PRODUCING THEIR FOOD AND FIBER. THIS IS AN EYEOPENING EXPERIENCE FOR LOTS OF CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY ARE SEVERAL GENERATIONS REMOVED FROM THE FARM AND THIS ALSO SHOWS THEM HOW IMPORTANT AGRICULTURE IS TO THEIR LIVES. THE COCKE COUNTY FARM BUREAU ALSO DONATES TO COCKE COUNTY FFA AND 4-H ORGANIZATIONS.
