THE GOAL OF HEALTHY START OF NORTH CENTRAL FLORIDA IS TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF LOW BIRTHWEIGHT BABIES, AND TO IMPROVE HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT OUTCOMES.

HEALTHY START IS A FREE PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES SERVICES TO FAMILIES WITH PREGNANT WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN UP TO AGE 3 WHO ARE AT RISK FOR POOR BIRTH OUTCOMES AND NEED HELP WITH HEALTHY CHILD DEVELOPMENT. SERVICES INCLUDE EDUCATION AND SUPPORT IN CHILDBIRTH, BREASTFEEDING, WOMEN'S HEALTH, PARENTING AND MORE.
OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES INCLUDE THE PARTNER PROGRAM AND OTHER SMALLER PROGRAMS THE PARTNER PROGRAM WHICH WORKS WITH OB PATIENTS AT THE CENTER FOR WOMN'S HEALTH IN ALACHUA COUNTY TO PROVIDE EDUCATION AND REFER PATIENTS TO HOME VISITING PROGRAMS AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES.
MOMCARE PROVIDES OUTREACH SERVICES AND PRENATAL CARE COUNSELING BY TELEPHONE TO WOMEN WHO QUALIFY FOR SOBRA, ALSO KNOWN AS PREGNANCY MEDICAID.
NEWBORN HOME VISITING IS A FREE PROGRAM OFFERED TO ALL ALACHUA COUNTY WOMEN WHO GIVE BIRTH AT A HOSPITAL, BIRTH CENTER OR HOME WITHIN THE COUNTY. WITHIN A WEEK AFTER BABY IS BORN, A REGISTERED NURSE VISITS MOM AT HOME TO SEE HOW SHE AND BABY ARE DOING, SHARE INFORMATION AND CONNECT THEM TO SERVICES AND RESOURCES.THE PROGRAM IS OVERSEEN BY HEALTHY START OF NORTH CENTRAL FLORIDA COALITION AND IS A COLLABORATION BETWEEN HOSPITALS, HOME HEALTH AGENCIES, CHILDBIRTH PROVIDERS, SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES AND THE CHILDREN'S TRUST OF ALACHUA COUNTY.
