UNITED WAY OF LAKE AND SUMTER COUNTIES FOCUSES ON THE AREAS OF EDUCATION, INCOME AND HEALTH. UWLS FUNDS PROGRAMS THAT CONCENTRATE ON SCHOOL READINESS, EARLY GRADE LITERACY, GRADUATION FOR ALL AND PARENT TRAINING/EDUCATION. UWLS ALSO INVESTS IN PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR FINANCIAL STABILITY. THESE PROGRAMS HELP ADULTS IMPROVE THEIR EDUCATION LEVEL AND CREATE A MORE FINANCIALLY SECURE FUTURE. A THIRD AREA OF CONCENTATION IS HEALTH. UWLS SUPPORTS PROGRAMS THAT IMPROVE AND PROMOTE A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE, PROVIDING ACCESSS TO HEALTH SERVICES AND NUTRITION RESOURCES TO SUPPORT OPPORTUNITIES FOR A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE. THEY ALSO SUPPORT ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE AND PREVENTATIVE CARE.

UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A MASTER TEACHER, EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHERS APPLY KNOWLEDGE GAINED IN CLASSROOMS SETTINGS TO DEVELOP POSITIVE, PRACTICAL TEACHING SKILLS. WITH A FOCUS ON LANGUAGE DEVELOPMMENT, THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY PRESCHOOL EXPERIENCES, WHILE HELPING CHILDREN TO ENTER KINTERGARTEN READY TO SUCCEED.
MISSION UNITED IS A UNITED WAY PROGRAM THAT HELPS VETERANS, ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS AMD THEIR FAMILIES TAP INTO THE SERVICES THAY NEED TO RESUME CIVILIAN LIFE. UNITED WAY OF LAKE AND SUMTER COUNTIES ALSO PROVIDES AN INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICE AS WELL AS A LOW INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.
