("HDDC OR THE ORGANIZATION"), A GEORGIA NONPROFIT, WAS ESTABLISHED IN DECEMBER 1980 FOR THE PURPOSE OF STRENGTHENING THE INVOLVEMENT OF NEIGHBORHOOD CITIZENS: BY DEVELOPING PLANS FOR THE MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. HISTORICDISTRICT; BY PRESERVING EXISTING HOUSING, COMMERCIAL AND INSTITUTIONAL STRUCTURES, AND PROVIDING NEW HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES, WHILE PREVENTING THE DISPLACEMENT OF EXISTING RESIDENTS; BY BEAUTIFYING THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT, WHILE PRESERVING THE HISTORIC CHARACTER OF THE AREA; AND BY CREATING JOB, BUSINESS, AND SHOPPING OPPORTUNITIES.
