THE BERKELEY COUNTY FOUNDATION FOR EDUCATION IS AN ALL VOLUNTEER, NON- PROFIT ORGANIZATION, WHOSE GOAL IS THE IMPROVEMENT OF EDUCATION AT ALL LEVELS. ITS AIM IS TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT, BOTH FINANICAL AND NON- FINANCIAL, TO THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM IN THE COUNTY BY MEANS OF: (1) PROVIDING ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS THAT EXCEED THE SCHOOL DISTRICT'S OPERATING BUDGET AND OTHER FUNDING; (2) THROUGH THE USE OF GRANTS AND AWARDS, ENCOURAGE SCHOOLS, TEACHERS, AND STUDENTS TOWARDS QUALITY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS; (3) BY FOSTERING A POSITIVE COMMUNITY PERCEPTION OF EDUCATION IN THE COUNTY; AND (4) BY PROVIDING AN OCCASIONAL SCHOLARSHIP TO COLLEGE STUDENTS FROM THIS COUNTY. THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 29,600 STUDENTS IN BERKELEY COUNTY IN GRADES K-12, WITH 40 SCHOOLS AND 2,257 TEACHERS THAT STAND TO BENEFIT FROM THIS ORGANIZATION'S EFFORTS.
