THE ABBEVILLE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION WAS ESTABLISHED TO PRESERVE, MAINTAIN AND PROMOTE THE BURT-STARK MANSION AS A NATIONAL SIGNIFICANT PROPERETY IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES. THE BURT-STARK MANSION WAS DESIGNATED BY THE SECRETARY OF THE US DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR ON OCTOBER 23, 1992, AS A NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK, WHICH PLACES THE MANSION ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES. THE COMMISSION CONTINUES ITS MISSION THROUGH VOLUNTEERS AND SUPPORTERS.
