GENERAL ADMISSION. THE MUSEUM IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FIVE DAYS PER WEEK FOR GENERAL ADMISSION TO THE MUSEUM'S ART AND HISTORY EXHIBITIONS, AS WELL AS FOR GUIDED TOURS OF MECKLENBURG COUNTY'S OLDEST HOME, THE HEZEKIAH ALEXANDER HOMESITE.
K-12 FIELD TRIPS. EACH YEAR, THOUSANDS OF LOCAL STUDENTS FROM GRADES K-12 PARTICIPATE IN A SERIES OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS BOTH AT THE MUSEUM AND OFFSITE (OUTREACH PROGRAMS). PROGRAMS EXPLORE THE HISTORY OF OUR REGION THROUGH A SERIES OF INTERACTIVE JOURNEYS. THE 1774 HEZEKIAH ALEXANDER HOMESITE AND THE MUSEUM'S COLLECTION OF UNIQUE ARTIFACTS TELL THE STORY OF CHARLOTTE'S GROWTH FROM A SLEEPY HAMLET IN THE CAROLINA BACKCOUNTRY TO THE MAJOR METROPOLITAN CITY IT IS TODAY, ENABLING STUDENTS TO MEANINGFULLY ENGAGE IN LOCAL HISTORY THROUGH HANDS-ON EXPERIENCES.
SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL EVENTS FOR THE PUBLIC. THE MUSEUM OFFERS A SERIES OF EDUCATIONAL EVENTS FOR K-12 AND ADULT AUDIENCES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. IN FY 19, THIS INCLUDED A SERIES OF FREE FAMILY DAYS (CONNECT WITH CULTURE DAY, A NEW AFRICAN-AMERICAN HERITAGE FESTIVAL, TWELFTH NIGHT CELEBRATION), FREE ADULT PROGRAMS (CITY WALKS NEIGHBORHOOD WALKING TOURS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UNCC'S URBAN INSTITUTE; A WWI LECTURE SERIES IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CHARLOTTE MECKLENBURG LIBRARY, AND THE RON HANKINS "HISTORY TALKS" LECTURE SERIES), AS WELL AS EVENTS THAT WERE FREE WITH GENERAL ADMISSION (HOLIDAYS AND THE HOMESITE, CHAMPIONS OF HISTORY DAY, AND MECK DEC DAY). SOME OF OUR PAID EDUCATIONAL EVENTS INCLUDED THE TEAS OF THE BRITISH ISLES SERIES, COLONIAL GEM, THE MAD ABOUT MODERN HOME TOUR, AND THE CIVIL WAR SYMPOSIUM.
