FOUNDED IN 1981, PICKENS COUNTY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY IS THE SECOND OLDEST HABITAT AFFILIATE IN SOUTH CAROLINA, AND THE TWELFTH OLDEST IN THE NATION. PICKENS COUNTY HABITAT RENOVATES AND BUILDS HOMES TO PROVIDE HOUSING FOR NEEDY FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS AT A PRICE CLOSE TO THE ORGANIZATIONS COST. THE FIRST PICKENS COUNTY HABITAT HOUSE WAS CONSTRUCTED ON LEWIS STREET, FROM THE SHELL OF THE OLD GENERAL STORE THAT WAS DONATED BY MAYFAIR MILLS. PICKENS COUNTY HABITAT IS GOVERNED BY A BOARD OF DIRECTORS, MADE UP OF PICKENS COUNTY CITIZENS WHO ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT ELIMINATING POVERTY HOUSING THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY. TO DATE, PICKENS COUNTY HABITAT HAS RENOVATED AND CONSTRUCTED MORE THAN 90 HOMES THROUGHOUT PICKENS COUNTY.
