THE MISSION OF THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN HISTORICAL ASSOC. IS TO EXPLORE, PRESERVE, AND SHARE THE REGIONS RICH CULTURAL HERITAGE. WE ACCOMPLISH THAT MISSION THROUGH THEATRICAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND MUSEUM PROGRAMMING. OUR GEOGRAPHICAL AREA COVERED IS WATAUGA AND ADJACENT COUNTIES.

WE HAVE AROUND 4,900 PATRONS ATTEND OUR PRODUCTION HORN IN THE WEST AND HAVE AROUND 3,500 MUSEUM VISITORS ANNUALLY, MANY OF WHOM ARE SCHOOL CHILDREN. IN ADDITION, THERE WERE 51 GUESTS WHO ATTENDED OUR CHILDRENS PROGRAM. HORN IN THE WEST IS THE 3RD OLDEST OUTDOOR DRAMA IN THE UNITED STATES AND THE OLDEST OUTDOOR DRAMA WITH A REVOLUTIONARY WAR THEME.
