EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH: EDUCATING THE COMMUNITY ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF AND TIMELY NEED FOR LOCAL LAND CONSERVATION THROUGH SEMINARS, PUBLICATIONS, HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES LIKE THE LONG ISLAND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAM IN LOCAL SCHOOLS AND THE O'NEIL CONSERVATION STEWARDS SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM AS WELL AS NUMEROUS OTHER CONSERVATION-ORIENTED PROGRAMS.
STEWARDSHIP: ON AN ONGOING BASIS, THE LAND ALLIANCE ADVISES LANDOWNERS ABOUT PRIVATE CONSERVATION METHODS, AND ACQUIRES ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE LANDS. THE LAND ALLIANCE HOLDS CONSERVATION EASEMENTS ON 26 PRIVATE AND PUBLIC PROPERTIES TOTALING 183 ACRES OF LAND AND PROVIDES STEWARDSHIP SERVICES FOR AN ADDITIONAL 390 ACRES OF MANAGED LAND, OF WHICH 258 ACRES ARE FEE-OWNED.
LAND CONSERVATION: PARTNERING WITH GOVERNMENT, THE COMMUNITY, AND OTHER NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO RAISE FUNDS TO ACQUIRE LAND, CREATE PARKS AND ESTABLISH COMMUNITY GARDENS. IN 2021, THE LAND ALLIANCE UPDATED ITS COMMUNITY CONSERVATION PLAN IDENTIFYING MORE THAN 2,100 ACRES OF CONSERVATION WORTHY LANDS IN OUR DESIGNATED AREA WITH A GOAL OF ADVANCING MORE PRIVATE CONSERVATION EFFORTS.
