FOR THE FUTURE HEALTH AND VITALITY OF SURRY COUNTY, THE MISSION OF THE SURRY COUNTY EARLY CHILDHOOD PARTNERSHIP, INC. IS TO TAKE ACTION ON BEHALF OF THE PEOPLE OF SURRY COUNTY TO SUPPORT CHILDREN 0 TO 5 AND THEIR FAMILIES THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS ACROSS THE COUNTY.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM (NC PRE-K) - SUPPORTS HIGH QUALITY PRE-K SERVICES TO AT-RISK FOUR YEAR OLDS TO BETTER PREPARE THEM FOR SCHOOL SUCCESS. CHILDCARE SERVICES FOR 280 SLOTS WERE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE FOR FAMILIES THROUGH ELKIN CITY SCHOOLS, SURRY COUNTY SCHOOLS, MOUNT AIRY CITY SCHOOLS, AND YADKIN VALLEY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT HEADSTART. ELKIN CITY SCHOOLS SERVED 12 CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. 83% OF STUDENTS DEMONSTRATED MEASURABLE IMPROVEMENT IN COGNITIVE AND LANGUAGE SKILLS AND 12 PARENTS ATTENDED WORKSHOP SESSIONS. SURRY COUNTY SCHOOLS SERVED 169 FAMILIES AND 28 CHILDREN WERE REFERRED TO OTHER AGENCIES. 100% OF THE CHILDREN REFERRED RECEIVED SERVICES. 30 STAFF MEMBERS ATTENDED WORKSHOPS AND ALL IMPLEMENTED AT LEAST ONE NEW STRATEGY IN THEIR CLASSROOM. 79% OF THE CHILDREN SERVED SHOWED IMPROVED DIAL 4 SCORES FROM PRE-TO-POST TESTS. MT. AIRY CITY SCHOOLS SERVED 29 CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. 89% OF CHILDREN SERVED SHOWED IMPROVED DIAL ASSESSMENT SCORES OF AT LEAST 15 POINTS. 100% OF ESL STUDENTS ENROLLED DEMONSTRATED IMPROVED LANGUAGE SKILLS AS MEASURED BY DIAL ASSESSMENTS. 100% OF STAFF IMPLEMENTED AT LEAST ONE NEW PRACTICE IN THEIR CLASSROOM AS A RESULT OF ATTENDING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. YADKIN VALLEY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT HEADSTART SERVED 41 CHILDREN.
CHILD CARE RESOURCE & REFERRAL (CCR&R) - PROGRAM PROVIDES INFORMATION TO ASSIST FAMILIES IN FINDING CHILD CARE SERVICES. THE CCR&R COORDINATORS ASSIST FAMILIES, PROVIDERS AND THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE USE OF THE RESOURCE & REFERRAL DATABASE, PARENT EDUCATION PACKETS, LENDING LIBRARY, AND REGIONAL CCR&R SERVICES. THE COORDINATORS ALSO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE AND COORDINATE/PROVIDE TRAINING TO NEW AND EXISTING CHILD CARE PROVIDERS TO ENHANCE QUALITY CARE. CCR&R OFFERS REWARDS FOR INCREASED STAR RATING TO ELIGIBLE CHILD CARE FACILITIES BY PROVIDING CASH AWARDS TO TEACHERS, ASSISTANT TEACHERS, DIRECTORS, ASSISTANT DIRECTORS, AND HOME PROVIDERS. ELIGIBLE FULL-TIME PROVIDERS MAY ALSO RECEIVE ONE DAY OF SICK LEAVE COMPENSATION FOR MISSED SALARY. 12 CHILD CARE CENTERS/HOMES RECEIVED ASSISTANCE. 3 CHILD CARE PROVIDERS UTILIZED SICK DAY REIMBURSEMENT IN WHICH THE PROVIDERS WOULD NOT HAVE OTHERWISE RECEIVED ANY TYPE OF COMPENSATION. 23 INDIVIDUALS UTILIZED THE LENDING LIBRARY. 71 CHILD CARE PROVIDERS/INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATED IN A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP. 15 CHILD CARE FACILITIES PARTICIPATED IN CHILD CARE TRAININGS.
NURTURING PARENTING PROGRAM - A HOME-BASED PROGRAM PROVIDED FOR PARENTS AND THEIR INFANTS, TODDLERS AND PRESCHOOLERS. IT IS FOR FAMILIES AND THEIR CHILDREN BIRTH TO FIVE, LIVING IN SURRY COUNTY AND AT RISK OF CHILD ABUSE OR NEGLECT AND/OR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. SERVICES WERE PROVIDED THROUGH THE CHILDREN'S CENTER OF SURRY AND SURRY COUNTY SCHOOLS. A PARENT EDUCATOR PROVIDES FAMILY GROUP SESSIONS AND WEEKLY HOME VISITS IN WHICH PARENTS LEARN ABOUT NURTURING PARENTING ROUTINES, ALTERNATIVES TO HITTING, CHILD DEVELOPMENT, AND WAYS TO BUILD SELF-ESTEEM AND SELF-CONCEPT IN THEMSELVES AND THEIR CHILDREN. CHILDREN'S CENTER OF SURRY ASSESSED 26 FAMILIES FOR THE NEED FOR SERVICES. 24 FAMILIES AND THEIR CHILDREN RECEIVED HOME VISITS. 38 CHILDREN WERE SERVED. 24 FAMILIES RECEIVED RESOURCE INFORMATION. 100% OF THE FAMILIES ACCESSED SERVICES TO ENHANCE FAMILY SUPPORT AND PARENT COPING SKILLS. SURRY COUNTY SCHOOLS PROVIDED SERVICES TO 13 FAMILIES WHO WERE ASSESSED. 13 FAMILIES WERE OFFERED 16 SESSIONS. 100% OF THE FAMILIES EXPERIENCED AN INCREASE IN NURTURING PARENTING ATTITUDES AND PRACTICES AND WERE REFERRED TO APPROPRIATE COMMUNITY RESOURCES.
