HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF CLEVELAND COUNTY IS PART OF A WORLDWIDE CHRISTIAN HOUSING MINISTRY. HFHCC BUILDS HOMES IN CLEVELAND COUNTY AND WITH OUR AFFILIATION TO HFH INTERNATIONAL, WE SUPPORT BUILDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING ACROSS THE GLOBE. WE BELIEVE AFFORDABLE HOUSING BUILDS FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES. WE ARE IN THE CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS AND OPERATE LIKE OTHER HOME BUILDERS. WE HAVE A LICENSED CONTRACTOR TO SUPERVISE THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE HOUSES AND USE AS MUCH VOLUNTEER WORK AS POSSIBLE TO CONSTRUCT HOUSES. WE RECRUIT AND ORGANIZE VOLUNTEERS YEAR-ROUND. WE SELECT PARTNER FAMILIES THROUGH AN INTENSIVE APPLICATION PROCESS. PARTNER FAMILIES WORK ON THEIR OWN HOUSE, AS WELL AS OTHERS AND ARE REQUIRED TO PUT IN "SWEAT EQUITY." HOUSES ARE SOLD TO PARTNER FAMILIES AT BUILD COST AT ZERO PERCENT INTEREST. THE ORGANIZATION HAD TWO HOMES UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR. THE PROCEEDS FROM HOME SALES WILL BE USED FOR FUTURE CONSTRUCTION COSTS.
THE ORGANIZATION WORKS EXTENSIVELY WITH EXISTING HOMEOWNERS TO CONTINUE TO EDUCATE AND REINFORCE SKILLS NECESSARY FOR SUCCESSFUL HOMEOWNERSHIP. ALSO, THEY PROVIDE NEW AND POTENTIAL HOMEOWNERS WITH THE TOOLS AND RESOURSES NECESSARY TO BE BEGIN THE PROCESS OF BECOMING HOMEOWNERS. THE ORGANIZATION WORKS WITH COMMUNITY LEADERS AND ORGANIZATIONS TO BRING AWARENESS FOR THE NEED OF QUALITY, SAFE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING TO DISADVANTAGED FAMILIES.
