EDUCATION PROGRAMS & SUPPORT: PFNCA PROVIDED EXTENSIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMING FOR FAMILIES IMPACTED BY PARKINSON'S DISEASE IN FISCAL YEAR 2022. PROGRAMMING CONTINUED TO BE PROVIDED ONLINE IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19. PFNCA PROVIDED ITS ANNUAL EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE - THE PFNCA SYMPOSIUM. DEVELOPED BY PFNCA'S MEDICAL ADVISORY BOARD, THE EVENT WAS HELD AS AN ONLINE VIEW ON DEMAND CONFERENCE WITH MORE THAN 50 SESSIONS FROM 38 PHYSICIANS THAT SPECIALIZE IN PARKINSON'S. LECTURES PRESENTED INCLUDED: BEHAVIORAL AND COGNITIVE CHANGES IN PARKINSON DISEASE, DRIVING SAFELY AND PARKINSON'S DISEASE, GENETICS OF PARKINSON DISEASE, HOME SAFETY AND AGING IN PLACE, HOSPITALIZATION AND PARKINSON'S, HOW PARKINSON DISEASE IMPACTS VISION, HOW TO BE A SUPPORTIVE PARTNER TO A PERSON LIVING WITH PD, EXERCISE AND PARKINSON'S DISEASE, (SEE SCH O)
WELLNESS CLASSES/PROGRAMS: A LARGE PART OF PFNCA'S SERVICE EMPHASIZES ALLOWING THOSE DIAGNOSED WITH PARKINSON'S DISEASE TO SLOW THE NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF HOW THE DISEASE MAKES THEM FEEL. KEY COMPONENTS OF THIS EFFORT INCLUDE MOVEMENT (EXERCISE, BOXING, YOGA AND DANCE) AND VOICE STRENGTHENING (COMMUNICATIONS CLUB AND CHOIR) PROGRAMS. DURING FISCAL YEAR 2022, PFNCA OFFERED PROGRAM SESSIONS AT NO PER SESSION COST FOR PEOPLE IMPACTED BY PARKINSON'S DISEASE WHO RESIDE IN WASHINGTON, D.C., MARYLAND, VIRGINIA AND ELSEWHERE. PRIOR TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS BEING ENACTED, PFNCA PROVIDES PROGRAMS IN 34 DIFFERENT LOCATIONS IN 26 CITIES/COMMUNITIES IN MARYLAND, VIRGINIA AND WASHINGTON, D.C.
