TO ADVANCE ORGAN AVAILABILITY AND TRANSPLANTATION BY UNITING AND SUPPORTING ITS COMMUNITIES FOR THE BENEFIT OF PATIENTS THROUGH EDUCATION, TECHNOLOGY AND POLICY DEVELOPMENT.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
ADMINISTER THE ORGAN PROCUREMENT AND TRANSPLANTATION NETWORK (OPTN) WHICH PERFORMS THE MATCHING AND FACILITATES THE DISTRIBUTION OF DONATED HUMAN ORGANS WITH POTENTIAL RECIPIENTS. A COMPUTER DATABASE IS MAINTAINED AT UNOS THAT INCLUDES THE RELEVANT MEDICAL INFORMATION OF ALL INDIVIDUALS IN THE NATION WHO ARE LISTED FOR A TRANSPLANT. AS ORGANS BECOME AVAILABLE, THE DATABASE IS USED TO MATCH THE ORGANS WITH THE BEST POTENTIAL RECIPIENT. THERE ARE TWO FEES TOTALING $926 THAT ARE INCURRED BY TRANSPLANT CENTERS. ONE IS THE OPTN PATIENT REGISTRATION FEE OF $748 AND THE UNOS FEE OF $178. AS OF 9/30/2021 THERE WERE 106,905 REGISTRANTS/PATIENTS ON THE WAITING LIST. DURING FISCAL YEAR 2021, 41,346 TRANSPLANTS WERE PERFORMED FOR 39,813 UNIQUE PATIENTS/RECIPIENTS.
DATA ANALYSIS, INCLUDING PROVIDING MEMBER SERVICES (WHICH INCREASES THE EFFICIENCY AND ACCURACY OF DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS) AND FACILITATING CONSENSUS BUILDING FOR UNOS POLICY DEVELOPMENT.
