WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH COMMUNITY GROUPS AND ORGANIZATIONS, SOUTHERN MARYLAND RESOURCE CONSERVATION & DEVELOPMENT INC. IS DEDICATED TO IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE REGION BY ENABLING THE PEOPLE AND PROMOTING THE WISE USE OF OUR NATURAL AND ECONOMIC RESOURCES.

Part 3 - Line 4a

NRCS / RC&D PARTNERSHIP CONSERVATION TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE (SOIL TECHNICIANS & PROGRAM SUPPORT SPECIALISTS): RC&D HAS AN ACTIVE PARTNERSHIP WITH NRCS TO PROVIDE TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO THE LOCAL SOIL CONSERVATION DISTRICTS THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF MARYLAND. DURING FY 20, RC&D EMPLOYED EIGHT (8) INDIVIDUALS THAT WERE BASED OUT OF LOCAL SOIL CONSERVATION OFFICES THROUGH THE STATE, AND MANAGED BY NRCS STAFF. THE POSITIONS INCLUDE 3 SOIL TECHNICIANS, 3 PROGRAM SUPPORT SPECIALIST, 1 GRAZING SPECIALIST AND 1 FORESTER. THE COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT / GRANT THAT COVERS THESE EMPLOYEES WILL CONTINUE THROUGH DECEMBER 2021.


NORTH COUNTY FARMER'S MARKET & EXTENSION OF THREE NOTCH TRAIL - IN JULY 2019, RC&D EXECUTED AN MOU WITH ST. MARY'S COUNTY TO BE THE PROJECT MANAGER FOR THE DESIGN, ENGINEERING, AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW REGIONAL FARMER'S MARKET COMPLEX IN CHARLOTTE HALL, MD.


NAVY / RC&D RC&D CONTINUES TO ADMINISTER CONSERVATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS ON AREA NAVAL FACILITIES THROUGH COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH THE NAVY, UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF THE SIKES ACT TO FACILITATE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF NUMEROUS IMPORTANT CONSERVATION MEASURES, THAT PROTECT ENDANGERED SPECIES AND THE WATER QUALITY OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY. IN FY18, RC&D ADMINISTERED AGREEMENTS FOR 5 LARGE PROJECTS ON 3 DIFFERENT MILITARY INSTALLATIONS IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND.


OTHER PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE VARIOUS PROJECTS WITH STATE AND LOCAL COUNTY GOVERNMENTS, AS WELL AS THE EASEMENT PROGRAM.
