THE RIVANNA CONSERVATION ALLIANCE (RCA) IS A 501(C)(3) NONPROFIT WATERSHED ORGANIZATION BASED IN CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA. RCA WAS ESTABLISHED IN 2016 THROUGH A MERGER BETWEEN TWO LONG-STANDING ORGANIZATIONS: THE RIVANNA CONSERVATION SOCIETY AND STREAMWATCH. RCA SERVES AS THE LOCAL "VOICE OF THE RIVERX AND ITS PROGRAMS ACTIVELY ENGAGE HUNDREDS OF COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS IN PROTECTING THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT. PROGRAMS INCLUDE: CERTIFIED WATER QUALITY MONITORING; STUDENT, TEACHER, AND COMMUNITY EDUCATION; RESTORATION PROJECTS LIKE TREE PLANTINGS, RAIN GARDEN INSTALLATIONS, AND RIPARIAN RESTORATIONS; STREAM CLEANUPS; THE RIVANNA RIVER RACE; THE RIVANNA KIOSK NETWORK; AND THE RIVANNA RIVER STEWARDS. RCA IS THE ONLY VIRGINIA NONPROFIT TO BE CERTIFIED BY THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF SCIENTIFIC RIGOR FOR BACTERIA AND BIOLOGIC WATER QUALITY MONITORING. LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES USE RCA'S MONITORING DATA TO INFORM THEIR ENVIRONMENTAL DECISION-MAKING.
