Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
ARTS IN PRISON AND ALL VOLUNTEER GROUPS WERE CLOSED OUT OF THE STATE PRISONS IN MARCH OF 2020 DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. AT ONE POINT IN 2020 LANSING CORRECTIONAL FACILITY (THE PRIMARY SITE WE SERVE) WAS THE 13TH LARGEST COVID CLUSTER IN THE COUNTRY. OUR VOLUNTEERS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER THE FACILITY AND OUR PARTICIPANTS WERE LEFT WITH FEW OPTIONS FOR SELF-IMPROVEMENT, REHABILITATION, AND STRESS RELIEF AND MENTAL HEALTH BENEFITS. IN THE INTERIM WE PROVIDED 800 PERSONAL CARE PACKAGES TO INMATES BEING SENT FROM OTHER FACILITIES TO LANSING FOR QUARANTINE AND CARE. WE OFFERED A MAIL ART PROJECT THAT ASKED ARTISTS TO EXPRESS COVID FROM THEIR WINDOW. OUR PARTNERS FROM THE KANSAS CITY SYMPHONY CREATED A VIDEO OF INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS PERFORMING. SINCE THE SYMPHONY COULD NOT COME TO THE PRISON, THIS WAS A WAY FOR THE INMATES TO ENGAGE ANYWAY. WE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE SUPPLIES TO INCARCERATED ARTISTS AS MUCH AS THE FACILITY ALLOWED US TO.
