Part 3 - Line 1
TO FIGHT AIR INEQUALITY BY OPENING UP AIR QUALITY DATA AND CONNECTING A DIVERSE GLOBAL COMMUNITY OF INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
AIR QUALITY DATA PLATFORM: OPENAQ SCALED OUR FREE, OPEN-SOURCE DATA PLATFORM TO MEET THE NEEDS OF AIR QUALITY RESEARCHERS, COMMUNITY ADVOCATES, JOURNALISTS, AND OTHER AIR QUALITY CHANGEMAKERS. AS OF THE END OF 2021, WE WERE RECEIVING AN AVERAGE OF 30 MILLION DATA REQUESTS PER MONTH. OUR COVERAGE OF THE WORLD EXPANDED TO 150 COUNTRIES WHERE DATA FROM REFERENCE-GRADE MONITORS IS INGESTED. AND THE ADDITION OF LOW-COST SENSOR DATA FROM FIVE PARTNERS BEGAN TO FILL IN AREAS OF THE WORLD WHERE VERY LITTLE GOVERNMENT MONITORING OCCURS. THIS MAKES US THE LARGEST OPEN-SOURCE AGGREGATOR OF AIR QUALITY DATA IN THE WORLD. IN ADDITION, TO INCREASE USABILITY OF THE PLATFORM, WE DEVELOPED A CO-LOCATION TOOL TO COMPARE LOW-COST AIR QUALITY SENSORS AND REFERENCE-GRADE AIR QUALITY MONITORS AND MADE IMPROVEMENTS TO PLATFORM STABILITY AND RELIABILITY.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: WE CONNECTED DATA PRODUCERS AND USERS ACROSS SECTORS AND GEOGRAPHIES TO SUPPORT AN INTERNATIONAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. THIS INCLUDED LEADING THE INAUGURAL OPENAQ COMMUNITY AMBASSADORS PROGRAM (DURING WHICH FIVE AIR QUALITY LANDSCAPE ASSESSMENTS WERE PRODUCED), ORGANIZING COMMUNITY SERIES EVENTS (INCLUDING ONE ON HOW TO USE LOW-COST SENSOR DATA AND ONE ON AIR QUALITY-FOCUSED PHILANTHROPY), AND SHARING IMPACT STORIES AND VIDEOS ABOUT THE IMPACT USERS OF OPENAQ DATA ARE HAVING AROUND THE WORLD. THESE AND OTHER OUTREACH ACTIVITIES HAVE RESULTED IN GREATER USE OF THE PLATFORM FOR AIR QUALITY ANALYSIS AND CLEAN AIR ADVOCACY.
