QPR (QUESTION, PERSUADE, REFER) SUICIDE PREVENTION TRAINING IS A 90-MINUTE EVIDENCE-BASED PROGRAM THAT TEACHES THREE SIMPLE STEPS ANYONE CAN LEARN TO HELP SAVE A LIFE FROM SUICIDE. JUST AS PEOPLE TRAINED IN CPR AND THE HEIMLICH MANEUVER HELP SAVE THOUSANDS OF LIVES EACH YEAR, PEOPLE TRAINED IN QPR LEARN HOW TO RECOGNIZE THE WARNING SIGNS OF A SUICIDE CRISIS AND HOW TO QUESTION, PERSUADE AND REFER SOMEONE TO THE HELP THEY NEED. QPR, CREATED BY THE QPR INSTITUTE, IS LISTED ON THE NATIONAL REGISTRY OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES AND POLICIES (NREPP).
MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID IS A SKILLS-BASED TRAINING COURSE THAT TEACHES PARTICIPANTS TO IDENTIFY, UNDERSTAND AND RESPOND TO MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE USE CHALLENGES. THIS EIGHT-HOUR EVIDENCE BASED PUBLIC EDUCATION PROGRAM INTRODUCES PARTICIPANTS TO RISK FACTORS AND WARNING SIGNS OF MENTAL ILLNESS AND SUICIDE.
