THE RUSHMORE MUSIC FESTIVAL'S FLAGSHIP SOLO AND CHAMBER MUSIC PROGRAM TAKES PLACE IN THE HEART OF THE BLACK HILLS IN RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA. WITH A STRONG FOCUS ON INDIVIDUAL TECHNICAL MASTERY AND ARTISTIC GROWTH ROOTED IN COMMUNICATION, THE FESTIVAL FOSTERS A CHALLENGING, IMMERSIVE MUSICAL ENVIRONMENT. OVER THE COURSE OF 3 WEEKS, STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN MULTIPLE SOLO, CHAMBER, AND CONDUCTORLESS CHAMBER ORCHESTRA PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES IN THE NEW FACILITIES, WHOSE USE WAS DONATED IN-KIND, AND THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY. STUDIO CLASSES, DISTINGUISHED GUEST ARTIST MASTERCLASSES, AND COMPETITIONS PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH HIGH AND LOW-STRESS ENVIRONMENTS TO BUILD AND REFINE THEIR PERFORMANCE SKILLS. THE RUSHMORE MUSIC FESTIVAL WELCOMED STUDENTS FROM AROUND THE UNITED STATES ON AN AUDITION-ACCEPTED BASIS, PROVIDING THEM WITH FULL-TUITION FELLOWSHIPS. STUDENTS WERE RESPONSIBLE ONLY FOR THE COST OF A MEAL PLAN.
PERFORMANCE GUILD - STUDENTS FROM THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES OF RAPID CITY AND SPEARFISH PERFORMED FOR OUT-OF-STATE JUDGES TO RECEIVE FEEDBACK AND THEN PERFORM IN A SHOWCASE CONCERT.
IN ORDER TO ENHANCE ACCESSIBILITY TO CLASSICAL MUSIC, WE APPLIED FOR AND RECEIVED A GRANT TO CREATE PROJECT BEETHOVAN. PROJECT BEETHOVAN ALLOWS THE RUSHMORE MUSIC FESTIVAL TO TO BRING WORLD-CLASS CLASSICAL MUSIC PERFORMANCES DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY AS WELL AS SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. WE DO THIS THROUGH THE ACQUISITION AND CUSTOMIZATION OF A 12-PASSENGER VAN, AN ENCLOSED CARGO TRAILER, AND THE THE RETROFITTING OF THE ENCLOSED CARGO TRAILER INTO A MOBILE CONCERT VENUE. LABOR WAS PROVIDED THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH SOUTH DAKOTA SCHOOL OF MINES AND TECHNOLOGY MECHANICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS. THIS PROJECT WILL CONTINUE THROUGH 2023.
