Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3

SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM: UNDER THIS PROGRAM, 592 OWNED/COMMUNITY ANIMALS THAT WOULD OTHERWISE HAVE ADDED TO PET OVERPOPULATION WERE ALTERED AT ATHENSPETS' EXPENSE. TWO SHELTER DOGS WERE ALSO ALTERED.

COMMUNITY INTERVENTIONS: ATHENSPETS COMPLETED A PILOT PROJECT TO HELP KEEP ANIMALS IN GOOD, IF IMPOVERISHED, HOMES. THE PROGRAM BEGAN IN SEPTEMBER 2020 AND RAN THROUGH MARCH 2021. MORE THAN 100 DOGS FROM AN UNDERRESOURCED COMMUNITY IN ATHENS WERE PROVIDED BASIC VETERINARY CARE, WITH THEIR FAMILIES RECEIVING INFORMATION ABOUT APPROPRIATE VETERINARY CARE AND LEGAL REQUIREMENTS AND BEST PRACTICES FOR PET OWNERSHIP. THIS PILOT PROGRAM WAS SUCCESSFUL AND HAS BEEN PICKED UP BY PETSMART CHARITIES.

MEDICAL PROGRAM: ATHENSPETS PAID FOR THE NONROUTINE VETERINARY CARE OF 49 SHELTER ANIMALS AND 16 OWNED ANIMALS. THIS CARE ALLEVIATED SUFFERING OF THE ANIMALS AND ALLOWED FOR THE SUCCESSFUL PLACEMENT OF SHELTER ANIMALS THAT OTHERWISE WOULD HAVE BEEN EUTHANIZED FOR MEDICAL REASONS.

SHELTER ANIMAL SUPPORT: ATHENSPETS PAID BOARDING, TRAINING, AND TRANSPORT EXPENSES; PAID MEDICAL AND SPAY/NEUTER EXPENSES; AND BOUGHT MEDICAL AND OTHER SUPPLIES FOR THE ANIMALS IMPOUNDED AT ATHENS-CLARKE COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES (ACCAS). THESE SERVICES AND SUPPLIES MAKE THE ANIMALS MORE ADOPTABLE AND DECREASE THEIR SUFFERING WHILE AT THE SHELTER, AND MAKE POSSIBLE TRANSFERRING SHELTER ANIMALS TO RESCUE GROUPS. IN ADDITION, ATHENSPETS SUBSIDIZED THE ADOPTION OF ANIMALS AT TIMES, PAID CONTRIBUTED FUNDS TO RESCUE GROUPS ABLE TO TRANSFER IN ANIMALS FROM ACCAS AND, IN A FEW CASES, PAID PULL FEES TO JACKSON COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL TO TRANSFER DOGS TO ACCAS.
