Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE 74 DEVOTED THE RESOURCES OF ITS TOP REPORTERS AND ITS VIDEO TEAM TO PRODUCING A MULTIPART SERIES THAT EXAMINED THE UNUSUAL WAY IN WHICH THE PANDEMIC-CAUSED ECONOMIC RECESSION -- AND ITS SO-CALLED K-SHAPED RECOVERY -- WAS LEADING TO EVEN GREATER DISPARITIES IN EDUCATIONAL PROGRESS AMONG CHILDREN IN POORER FAMILIES THAN KIDS FROM WEALTHIER FAMILIES. THIS PROJECT EXAMINED SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN 5 U.S.CITIES, RENO NV, AUSTIN TX, WILMINGTON DE, WASHINGTON DC AND COLORADO SPRINGS CO.
THE 74 TEAMED UP WITH THE REINVENTING SCHOOLS PROJECT OF THE PROGRESSIVE POLICY INSTITUTE TO PRODUCE A SERIES OF ONLINE PANELS TO EXAMINE SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THEMES IN K-12 EDUCATION, INCLUDING THE FUTURE OF CHARTER SCHOOLS, THE QUESTION OF WHETHER EDUCATION SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A CIVIL RIGHT, STEM EDUCATION, AND HOW TO CLOSE THE LITERACY GAPS. THESE PANELS INCLUDED MANY PROMINENT VOICES IN AMERICAN EDUCATION AND ONE OF THEM FEATURED AN INTRODUCTION BY FORMER PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON.
THROUGH MUCH OF 2021, THE 74 DEVOTED CONSIDERABLE COVERAGE TO THE MENTAL HEALTH CONSEQUENCES AMONG STUDENTS FROM THE COVID PANDEMIC. THE CENTERPIECE OF THIS EFFORT WAS A SERIES OF ARTICLES THAT FOCUSED ON THE UNIQUE CHALLENGES MANY STUDENTS FACED AFTER WHAT WAS THEN A YEAR OF SOCIAL AND EDUCATIONAL ISOLATION AND WHAT SCHOOLS ACROSS THE NATION WERE DOING TO TRY TO HELP THESE STUDENTS.
OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES - EXPANDED THE SEARCH AND IMPACT OF THE 74 THROUGH A POWERFUL MIX OF EDITORIAL, VIDEO, AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES, LIVE EVENTS AND MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES.
