ONE YEAR OF MONITORING OF SHARK LANDINGS IN THE COMMUNITIES OF LAS LISAS, SIPACATE AND EL QUETZALITO, THIS HELPS CREATE A BASELINE FOR THE PACIFIC OF GUATEMALA THROUGH A NATIONAL PLAN OF ACTION, FOR MANAGEMENT WE IDENTIFIED MORE THAT 3000 SPECIMENS DURING THE YEAR. THE NATIONAL PLAN OF ACTION WILL SOON BE A MINISTERIAL AGREEMENT.113 TISSUE SAMPLES FROM SHARK MEAT WERE IDENTIFIED THROUGH DNA IN MARKETS AND SUPERMARKETS OF GUATEMALA. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO INFORM THE ESTABLISHMENTS, SO THEY CHOOSE TO BUY SUSTAINABLY.WE CARRIED OUT VISUAL ID WORKSHOPS FOR GOVERNMENTAL INSTITUTIONS, ACADEMIA AND THE PRIVATE SECTOR, THIS IN ORDER TO BUILD CAPACITIES IN ORDER TO IDENTIFY ILLEGAL TRADING OF PROTECTED SPECIES OF SHARKS.WE PARTICIPATED IN TWO IUCN SHARK SPECIALIST GROUP MEETINGS, TO ASSESS ELASMOBRANCH STATUS.WE TAUGHT 995 CHILDREN THE IMPORTANCE OF SHARKS FOR OUR OCEANS.WE GAVE 11 CHILDREN FULL SCHOLARSHIPS IN THE COMMUNITY OF EL QUETZALITO.WE PROMOTE ENVIRONMENTAL CONSCIOUSNESS IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE USE OF PLASTIC IN LIVINGSTON IZABAL. WE WERE ABLE TO REACH 350 CHILDREN AND CARRIED OUT TWO BEACH CLEAN UPS.WE REACHED 350 CHILDREN IN THE GULF OF HONDURAS TO REDUCE THE USE OF PLASTIC AND BETTER MANAGE SOLID WASTE. WE CARRIED OUT 40 BEACH CLEANUPS.WE CARRIED OUT AN ENVIRONMENTAL AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAM IN THREE COMMUNITIES REACHING 116 CHILDREN AND 33 FISHERMEN.
