Part 3 - Line 4a
FORTUNES CAN CHANGE IN AN INSTANT A LAYOFF, AN ACCIDENT, A LONG-TERM ILLNESS, OR OTHER UNEXPECTED EVENT CAN HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON A FAMILY. SEEING SO MANY FAMILIES IN NEED, REMINDS ALL OF US HOW EASILY OUR LIVES CAN TAKE A TURN FOR THE WORSE WITHOUT ANY NOTICE, SAYS DONNA WILKERSON, OPERATIONS MANAGER, FIRST PLACE FOOD PANTRY. WHEN A FAMILYS FOOD BUDGET GETS SLASHED, CARING ABOUT NUTRITION DROPS DOWN ON THE PRIORITY SCALE. RECENTLY, A NEW FAMILY CAME TO THE FOOD PANTRY. THE WIFE HAD A DEBILITATING HEART ATTACK. HER HUSBAND HAD TO RETIRE FROM WORK TO CARE FOR HER. APPLYING FOR ASSISTANCE TAKES A LONG TIME. FINANCES GOT TIGHT AND MEDICAL EXPENSES KEPT MOUNTING. THANKFULLY, A NEIGHBOR CHECKED IN ON THEM ONE DAY AND SAW THEIR NEED. SHE TOLD THEM ABOUT FIRST PLACE FOOD PANTRY. THEY HAD ONE CAN OF SOUP, A LOAF OF BREAD AND PEANUT BUTTER LEFT IN THE CUPBOARD. HE HAD LOST 54 POUNDS AND SHE HAD LOST 30 POUNDS. WHEN THEY VISITED OUR DRIVE-UP FOOD PANTRY FOR THE FIRST TIME, THEY WERE EMBARRASSED THEY HAD TO ASK FOR HELP. BUT THEY WERE SO GRATEFUL FOR THE FOOD THEY RECEIVED. THE SECOND TIME THEY CAME BACK TO THE FOOD PANTRY HE SAID WE GOT TO EAT A FULL MEAL WHICH WE HAD NOT HAD IN A LONG TIME WE HAD MEAT, FRESH VEGETABLES, PASTA, AND .... DESSERT WE AGAIN HAVE FOOD ON OUR SHELVES. WE CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH
