THE MISSION OF THE LINCOLN COMMUNITY PLAYHOUSE IS TO CREATE AND PROMOTE QUALITY THEATRICAL EXPERIENCES THAT MEET THE NEEDS OF THE LINCOLN AREA. THE PLAYHOUSE ACHIEVES IT'S MISSION BY PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PARTICIPATION BY CHILDREN, YOUTH, AND ADULTS; A VARIETY OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR VOLUNTEERISM; A VARIETY OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR EDUCATION REGARDING THE THEATRE; AND BY PROMOTING A THEATRE THAT IS ENTERTAINING AND AFFORDABLE TO A MULTI-FACETED AUDIENCE.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

LINCOLN COMMUNITY PLAYHOUSE IS THE ONLY COMMUNITY THEATRE IN THE CITY THAT OWNS ITS OWN FREESTANDING BUILDING. AS SUCH, IT IS A BASTION OF LINCOLN'S ARTS SCENE. THE PLAYHOUSE PROVIDES UP TO NINE PRODUCTIONS ANNUALLY WHICH OFFER AREA CHILDREN, YOUTH AND ADULTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENRICH AND CHANGE THEIR LIVES THROUGH PARTICIPATION AS ACTORS, CREW MEMBERS, DESIGNERS, AND FRONT-OF-HOUSE VOLUNTEERS. THERE ARE NO ENROLLMENT FEES AND VOLUNTEERS COME FROM ALL ECONOMIC AND AGE LEVELS. THE PLAYHOUSE OFFERS A QUALITY EXPERIENCE FOR THE SEASONED PERFORMER AS WELL AS THE NOVICE. THE PROGRAMMING IS VARIED TO APPEAL THROUGHOUT THE SEASON TO CHILDREN, FAMILY AND ADULT AUDIENCES AND INCLUDES COMEDIES, DRAMAS AND MUSICALS. THE PLAYHOUSE ALSO SEEKS PARTNERSHIPS WITH OTHER AREA ARTS ORGANIZATIONS.


THE PLAYHOUSE EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAMMING INVOLVES NUMEROUS SATURDAY MORNING THEATRE CLASSES AS WELL AS ONE WEEK AND TWO WEEK THEATRE ARTS ACADEMIES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE TO MAKE CLASSES ACCESSIBLE TO ALL INTERESTED STUDENTS. CLASSES ARE TAUGHT BY TRAINED THEATRE PEOPLE AND THEATRE PROFESSIONALS TO OFFER THE HIGHEST QUALITY EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE. IN ADDITION, SPECIAL YOUTH THEATRE PERFORMANCES ARE HELD AT REDUCED OR FREE ADMISSION AS AN OUTREACH TO ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES AND TO THOSE WHOSE FAMILIES INCLUDE INDIVIDUALS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. THE PLAYHOUSE ALSO SEEKS PARTNERSHIPS WITH AREA SOCIAL AGENCIES TO EXPAND ITS OUTREACH.
