PRODUCING AND PRESENTING BROADWAY MUSICALS, PLAYS AND NEW WORKS IN LOCAL PERFORMING ARTS CENTERS AND ENRICHING THE LIVES IN THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE.
THEATER ROCKS REACH OUT TO KIDS IS THEATHER LEAGUES EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAM. TARGETING STUDENTS IN TITLE I AND SIMILARLY DISADVANTAGE YOUNG PEOPLE, THE ORGANIZATION-- WORKING WITH LOCAL SERVICE ORGANIZATION IN SOME CASES-- PROVIDES FREE OR SUBSIDIZED TICKETS TO PERFORMANCES OF ITS OWN PRESENTATIONS AND OTHER PROFESSIONAL PERFORMING ARTS EVENTS IN THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE. STUDENTS ALSO ATTEND QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSIONS WITH THEATER PROFESSIONALS AND ENGAGE IN POST-SHOW DISCUSSIONS AND CLASSROOM EFFORTS INCLUDING ARTS AND CRAFTS PROJECTS TO EXPAND THE IMPACT OF THEIR THEATERGOING EXPERIENCE.
THEATER LEAGUE COMMISSIONED THE PLAY FOUR CHILDREN, TO BE PRODUCED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE TOURING EXHIBIT AUSCHWITZ.NOT LONG AGO. NOT FAR AWAY, WHICH WAS PRESENTED IN OCTOBER 2021 BY KANSAS CITY ACTORS THEATRE. THE PLAY TRACES THE LIVES OF FOUR TEENAGERS WHO LIVED IN POLAND DURING THE HOLOCAUST AND GENOCIDES IN ARMENIA, CAMBODIA AND SARAJEVO, REMINDING AUDIENCES THAT WITHOUT VIGILANCE, THESE TRAGEDIES CAN HAPPEN ANYTIME, ANYWHERE. THE PLAY WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE IN FUTURE YEARS TO SCHOOLS AND PERFORMING ARTS CENTERS TO COMMEMORATE THE ANNIVERSARIES OF THESE TERRIBLE EVENTS.
