THE MISSION OF WRITE ON, DOOR COUNTY IS TO INSPIRE WRITERS AND READERS OF ALL AGES, AT ALL STAGES. WE DO THIS THROUGH EVENTS AND WORKSHOPS AT OUR WRITING CENTER AND WITHIN THE COMMUNITY, THROUGH OUR RESIDENCE PROGRAM AND BY OFFERING SUPPORT TO OUR WRITERS.

WRITE ON DOOR COUNTY OFFERS AUTHOR READINGS, BOOK DISCUSSIONS, AND WRITING CLASSES TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE OF ALL AGES TO SHARE THEIR STORIES. WRITE ON DOOR COUNTY AVERAGES 7 CLASSES EACH MONTH AT ITS WRITING CENTER AND WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. THE CRAFT OF WRITING MONTHLY SERIES IS A THREE-WEEK ONLINE PROGRAM THAT OCCURS THE FIRST THROUGH THIRD THURSDAY OF THE MONTH. EACH MONTH FOCUSES ON A DIFFERENT GENRE OR FORM OF WRITING. THE FIRST WEEK FEATURES TWO NOTED WRITERS OF THAT MONTH'S GENRE IN CONVERSATION. EACH WRITER THEN LEADS A 90-MINUTE WORKSHOP ON THE SUBSEQUENT TWO THURSDAYS. IN 2021, THERE WERE 24 PARTICIPANTS IN FOUR MONTHLY SESSIONS. THE WASHINGTON ISLAND LITERARY FESTIVAL IS A MOVEABLE FEAST OF WRITING, READING, DISCUSSION, AND THOUGHT ABOUT THE WRITTEN WORD. WRITERS' WORKSHOPS, AUTHOR PANELS AND PRESENTATIONS, READINGS AND PARTIES ARE SCHEDULED AT VARIOUS QUAINT, HISTORIC AND BEAUTIFUL VENUES AROUND THE ISLAND. PARTICIPANTS HAVE A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE TIME WITH PROMINENT AUTHORS AND DEDICATED READERS IN THE INTIMATE, FRIENDLY SETTING OF WASHINGTON ISLAND, A HALF-HOUR BY FERRY FROM THE DOOR COUNTY MAINLAND IN SEPTEMBER'S COLOR AND WARMTH. IN 2021,78 FOLKS PARTICIPATED IN THE FOUR DAYS OF SESSIONS HELD.
WRITE ON DOOR COUNTY'S WRITERS RESIDENCY PROGRAM PROVIDES SPACE AND SOLITUDE FOR WRITERS TO FOCUS MUCH-NEEDED TIME ON THEIR CRAFT. IN 2021, WRITE ON DOOR COUNTY HOSTED 66 WRITERS-IN-RESIDENCE ON THEIR 59-ACRE CAMPUS. IN 2021, THEY HELD THREE MAJOR CONFERENCES, WITH OVER 150 PARTICIPANTS IN TOTAL.
