H.O.P.E. BAG (HELPING OTHERS PERSEVERE EVERYDAY). THIS LARGE INSULATED BAG IS GIVEN TO EVERY NEWLY ADMITTED CHILD WITH CANCER AT THE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL OF SAN ANTONIO. THIS BAG CONTAINS THE ESSENTIALS A FAMILY MIGHT NEED WHEN THEY FIND THEMSELVES SUDDENLY IN A CRISIS MODE. IN ADDITION TO THE ITEMS IN EACH BAG, THE FAMILIES HAVE ACCESS TO PARKING PASSES AND FOOD VOUCHERS FOR THE CAFETERIA. OUR GOAL IS TO TRY TO TAKE A LITTLE OF THE IMMEDIATE BURDEN OFF OF THE SHOULDERS OF THESE FAMILIES THAT HAVE JUST FOUND OUT THAT THEIR CHILD HAS CANCER. MANY OF THESE FAMILIES HAVE LITTLE OR NO INSURANCE, SOME ARE FROM OUT OF TOWN, AND SOME MUST GIVE UP THEIR JOBS TO STAY AT THE HOSPITAL WITH THEIR CHILD. WE WANT TO GIVE THEM A LITTLE HOPE THAT PEOPLE CARE, AND THAT HELP IS AVAILABLE.
THE JANA BANANA PAJAMA PROGRAM WAS IMPLEMENTED BY TEED OFF AT CANCER IN 2019. THIS PROGRAM SERVICES ALL THREE PEDIATRIC ONCOLOGY HOSPITALS IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS. EACH HOSPITAL HAS A PAJAMA CLOSET THAT IS STOCKED WITH A VARIETY OF PAJAMAS FOR THE PATIENTS TO CHOOSE FROM AND TAKE HOME WITH THEM. THE PURPOSE OF THE JANA BANANA PAJAMA PROGRAM IS TO GIVE CHILDREN A LITTLE COMFORT AND A FEELING OF "HOME" DURING THEIR LONG HOSPITAL STAYS.
