HEALTH IN THE HOOD IS CREATING HEALTHY COMMUNITIES BY BUILDING VEGETABLE GARDENS AND TEACHING WELLNESS IN UNDER-SERVED NEIGHBORHOODS. THE ORGANIZATION TRANSFORMS VACANT LAND INTO VIBRANT VEGETABLE GARDENS, PRODUCING MANY DIFFERENT VEGETABLES AND FRUITS. IT HIRES LOCAL RESIDENTS TO MAINTAIN THE GARDENS, PROVIDING NEEDED JOBS. IN 2019 THE ORGANIZATION HAD TEN (10) URBANS FARMS THROUGHOUT SOUTHERN FLORIDA AND DISTRIBUTED OVER 6,000 POUNDS OF FREE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES TO FAMILIES IN FOOD DESERTS.IN 2020, AS A RESULT OF THE COVID PANDEMIC, A FOOD DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM WAS SET UP WITH A PULL UP PANTRY WHERE FOOD SUPPLIES WERE PROVIDED TO THE PEOPLE.
