SAVE THE MICHAELS RAISES AWARENESS OF PRESCRIPTION AND OTHER DRUG ADDICTIONS. ABUSE AND MISUSE OF THESE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES LEADS TO SERIOUS ILLNESS, DEPRESSION, DEATHS FROM OVERDOSE AND SUICIDE, AND THE DEVASTATION OF CAREGIVERS AND LOVED ONES.

SAVE THE MICHAELS OF THE WORLD (STM) OFFERS EDUCATION RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS AFFECTED BY ADDICTION. FREE CLASSES AND FORUMS ARE HELD ACROSS WESTERN NEW YORK TO LEARN ABOUT ADDICTION, AND WHAT CAN BE DONE TO PREVENT IT. WE LINK FAMILIES TO TREAMENT OPTIONS, RECOVERY COACHES, AND WRAP-AROUND SERVICES. STM WAS ESTABLISHED FOR THE PURPOSE OF COLLECTING AND DISSEMINATING INFORMATION ABOUT THE PREVALENCE OF ADDICTION TO ILLICIT SUBSTANCES AND PRESCRIPTION MEDICINES. STM IS THE FIRST ORGANIZATION OF ITS KIND TO ASSIST AND EDUCATE FAMILIES WHO ARE DEALING WITH A LOVED ONE'S SUBSTANCE USE. STM HAS ALSO DEVELOPED A PROGRAM, WITH THE STATE OF NEW YORK ("NYS"), TO HELP THOSE IN NEED NAVIGATE THE DIFFICULT SYSTEM OF SEEKING A BED IN INPATIENT TREATMENT CENTERS. IN ADDITION, STM WORKS WITH THE JUDICIAL COURT SYSTEM IN NYS TO HELP INDIVIDUALS STRUGGLING WITH SUBSTANCE USE FIND THEIR WAY TO TREATMENT, RATHER THAN SPEND TIME IN JAIL. STM WORKS TO TRANSPORT THESE INDIVIDUALS FROM THE JAIL SYSTEM TO TREATMENT ALL OVER THE STATE.
