TO DEVELOP PROGRAMMING THROUGH STREAM ACADEMIES, INSTITUTES, WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS, THAT PROVIDE COMPUTER LITERACY, ADULT LITERACY, RESUME WRITING, ETIQUETTES, INTERVIEWING SKILLS, AND DRESS FOR SUCCESS PROGRAMS, IN COLLABORATION WITH AREA COMMUNITIES.

Part 3 - Line 4a

CONDUCTED A THREE-WEEK STREAM CAMP FOR 170 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT SCHOLARS IN FOUR COUNTIES IN THE BLACKBELT, NAMELY, HALE COUNTY, GREENE COUNTY, TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AND SUMTER COUNTY. CAMP SCHOLARS HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPAND ON THEIR CAREER OPTIONS BY BEING EXPOSED TO THE STREAM CONCEPT. THE PROGRAMS ACADEMIC COMPONENT PROVIDED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING TO ACCURATELY ASSESS EACH OF THE STUDENTS NEEDS. THEREBY, MAINTAINING A DEGREE OF FLEXIBILITY IN EACH DISCIPLINE TO MAKE MID-IMPLEMENTATION ADJUSTMENTS.COLLEGE AND HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS WERE EMPLOYED TO IMPLEMENT THE INSTRUCTION. CAMP SCHOLAR TRAVELED TO LOCAL COLLEGES FOR THE FIRST TIME, NAMELY, MILES COLLEGE, TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY, AND ALABAMA STATE UNIVERSITY. SCHOLARS VISITED SITES LIKE ED FARM AND THE JONES VALLEY TEACHING FARM WHICH OPENED THEIR EYES TO THE RELEVANCE OF AGRICULTURE AND INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT.


SCHOLARS WERE ASSIGNED ROLE MODELS TO ASSIST IN NAVIGATING HIGHER EDUCATION OR ENTERING THE WORKFORCE. THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLAR ($350.00) STIPENDS WERE AWARDED TO EACH SCHOLAR FOR THEIR COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION TO COMPLETING THE THREE-WEEK ENDEAVOR AND COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARD TO THE MOST OUTSTANDING.
