Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
THE AAW INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM, SCHEDULED FOR OMAHA, NE IN JUNE WAS CANCELLED DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. FOR THE SECOND CONSEQUTIVE YEAR, ARRANGEMENTS WERE MADE TO PRESENT OUR TRADITIONAL WOODTURNING SYMPOSIUM PROGRAMMING VIRTUALLY. THE VIRTUAL EVENT GENERATED NEARLY 3,000 REGISTRANTS AND WAS VIEWED BY INDIVDIUALS IN 25 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. HELD OVER TWO DAYS, THIS VIRTUAL EVENT OFFERED A PREMIER LEARNING OPPORTUNITY AND WAS THE WORLD'S LARGEST GATHERING OF WOODTURNING ENTHUSIASTS IN 2021.
THE AAW IS THE LEADING AUTHORITY IN WOODTURNING EDUCATION AND EXECUTING OUR STRATEGY TO BECOME THE PREMIER WORLD-WIDE ONLINE WOODTURNING EDUCATOR. THE AAW PUBLISHES A HIGH-QUALITY EDUCATIONAL JOURNAL, AMERICAN WOODTURNER, WHICH IS DISTRIBUTED TO ALL MEMBERS. CONTENT COVERS AN EXTREMELY BROAD RANGE OF TOPICS IMPORTANT TO THE WOODTURNING COMMUNITY. THE AAW IS ALSO HEAVILY VESTED IN THE ONLINE LEARNING SPACE ENABLING ACCESS TO MORE THAN 35 YEARS OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES.
TOTAL MEMBERSHIP AT THE END OF 2021 WAS APPROXIMATELY 14,700. MEMBERSHIP RETENTION AND ACQUISITION OF NEW MEMBERS ARE CRITICAL PERFORMANCE MEASURES.
IN 2021, THE AAW DISBURSED $14,296 IN CASH GRANTS UNDER OUR EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM TO INDIVIDUALS, AFFILIATED LOCAL CHAPTERS AND SCHOOLS AND EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS. THESE EOG GRANTS SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASE THE AAW'S REACH TO PROVIDE TANGIBLE LEARNING AND SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES. CHARITABLE DONATIONS OF ARTWORK BY OUR MEMBERS PROVIDE THE SOURCE OF GRANT FUNDING FOR THIS IMPORTANT EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM.
