CHI'S PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE MEDICAL CARE AND PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES TO COMMUNITIES IN RURAL HAITI. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PARTNERS WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS TO ADDRESS ISSUES SUCH AS WATER QUALITY AND SANITATION, NUTRITION, AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT.

CHI VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATE IN MEDICAL AND SURGICAL CLINICS. THESE CLINICS ARE STAFFED BY VOLUNTEER MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS FROM THE US, NON-MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS FROM THE US, AND HAITIANS. THE CLINICS PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR HEALTH EDUCATION, PREVENTATIVE HEALTH CARE, AND DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF INDIVIDUAL PATIENTS. CHI HELD 6 INDIVIDUAL CLINICS IN 2019. TWO OF THESE CLINICS WERE STAFFED BY US VOLUNTEERS, AND FOUR WERE STAFFED PRIMARILY BY HAITIAN MEDICAL AND NON-MEDICAL PROVIDERS. AVERAGE PATIENT VISITS PER WEEK-LONG CLINIC EXCEEDED 1,000.
CHI HAS PARTNERED WITH EXECUTIVES WITHOUT BORDERS AND PLASTIC BANKING A PROGRAM THAT PLACES PLASTIC COLLECTION DEPOTS IN TOWNS AROUND HAITI. THIS PROGRAM CLEANS UP THE STREETS, STOPS THE WIDESPREAD BURNING OF PLASTIC, AND SUPPLEMENTS PEOPLE'S INCOME.
CHI ALSO DISTRIBUTES SPECIALIZED WATER BUCKETS AND CHLORINE TABLETS. WHEN USED CORRECTLY THIS CHLORINATED WATER SYSTEM HAS BEEN SHOWN TO SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASE THE NUMBER OF CASES OF INTESTINAL AND DIGESTIVE ISSUES.
