ACTIVE CHILDREN PORTLAND LAUNCHED AN ONLINE LEARNING PLATFORM WITH SOCCER SKILL VIDEOS, DRILLS, NUTRITION ACTIVITIES, AND CREATIVE WRITING. THIS WAS DONE TO HELP LOW-INCOME AND STUDENTS OF COLOR WHO WERE DISPROPORTIONATELY AFFECTED BY COVID-19 ISOLATION AND LACK OF RESOURCES. THESE ALLOWED KIDS TO BE ACTIVE PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY AT HOME IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT.
ACTIVE CHILDREN PORTLAND INTRODUCED COMPREHENSIVE SUMMER PROGRAMMING TO HELP THOSE STUDENTS MOST AFFECTED BY COVID-19 SCHOOL CLOSURES, ISOLATION, AND REDUCED SERVICES. THIS PROGRAMMING DIFFERED FROM USUAL AFTER-SCHOOL OPERATIONS IN THAT ACTIVE CHILDREN PORTLAND WAS OFFERED FOR HALF THE SCHOOL DAY, FOLLOWING A REDUCED REGULAR-SCHOOL DAY SESSION. KIDS GOT MEALS AND SNACKS, SOCIALIZATION, CREATIVE ACTIVITIES, AND A MINIMUM OF 60 MINUTES OF FITNESS DAILY.
ACTIVE CHILDREN PORTLAND DELIVERED SPORTS EQUIPMENT, NUTRITION INFORMATION, AND ACTIVITY WORKBOOKS TO SCHOOLS TO BE DISTRIBUTED TO KIDS AND FAMILIES. DURING CLOSURES, FAMILIES COULD PICK UP TWO MEALS A DAY FOR STUDENTS AT THEIR LOCAL SCHOOL. ACTIVE CHILDREN PORTLAND INCLUDED GAMES AND LEARNING ENRICHMENT TO KEEP KIDS ACTIVE AND ENGAGED IN THE SAFETY OF THEIR HOMES.
