TO ENHANCE THE SELF-ESTEEM OF CHILDREN IN NEED BY PROVIDING THEM TARGETED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
MILLIONS OF CHILDREN LIVING IN POVERTY SUFFER NOT JUST PHYSICALLY, BUT EMOTIONALLY. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN A CHILD HAS TO WEAR THE SAME SHIRT TO SCHOOL SEVERAL DAYS IN A ROW, OR WHEN HE CANNOT PAY THE FEE TO JOIN HIS CLASSMATES ON THE FIELD TRIP, OR WHEN SHE CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN GRADUATION CEREMONIES FOR LACK OF FUNDS TO PAY FOR SENIOR DUES, IT'S EMBARRASSING AND HEARTBREAKING FOR THAT CHILD, AND FURTHERMORE, CAN RESULT IN A BREAKDOWN OF CONFIDENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM. RESPONDING TO REQUESTS FROM A NATIONAL NETWORK OF TEACHERS AND SOCIAL WORKERS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY, ALICE'S KIDS ANONYMOUSLY PAYS FOR SUCH ITEMS IN THE BELIEF THAT A LITTLE HELP CAN GO A LONG WAY. THE PAYMENT CAN BE IN THE FORM OF A CHECK (AS IN THE CASE OF PAYING FOR A FIELD TRIP OR SENIOR PROM TICKET) OR A GIFT CARD (E.G., TO PAY FOR A NEW SHIRT, SOCCER CLEATS OR EYEGLASSES.)
