TO PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD TO CHILDREN AND FAMILIES FACING HUNGER IN DURHAM COUNTY, NC.

FOOD FOR PANTRIES - PORCH-DURHAM PROVIDED SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD AND GROCERY GIFT CARDS FOR 24 SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS IN DURHAM COUNTY WHO SERVE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES AT RISK FOR FOOD INSECURITY. THE NONPERISHABLE ITEMS FOR THIS PROGRAM WERE LARGELY COLLECTED THROUGH MONTHLY FOOD DRIVES HELD BY NEIGHBORHOODS, CIVIC AND RELIGIOUS GROUPS, WORKPLACES, SCHOOLS AND INDIVIDUALS. THE FOOD AND GIFT CARDS WERE DELIVERED TO THE PARTNER SITES, WHO THEN DISTRIBUTED THEM TO FAMILIES.


FOOD FOR FAMILIES - PORCH-DURHAM PROVIDED SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD DIRECTLY TO CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES IN DURHAM COUNTY WHO ARE EXPERIENCING FOOD INSECURITY. THIS PROGRAM INVOLVED ASSEMBLING AND DISTRIBUTING BOXES OF DRY GOODS, FRESH PRODUCE, AND HYGIENE ITEMS TO FAMILIES AT DRIVE-THROUGH/CURBSIDE DISTRIBUTION SITES.


PORCH FRESH - PORCH-DURHAM PROVIDED FRESH PRODUCE TO SEVERAL PRESCHOOL AND K-12 PARTNERS WHOSE CHILDREN ARE AT RISK FOR FOOD INSECURITY. MONTHLY PRODUCE BAGS/BOXES, PURCHASED PRIMARILY FROM A LOCAL NON-PROFIT, WERE SENT HOME WITH FAMILIES. ADDITIONALLY, PORCH-DURHAM PROVIDED EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS SUCH AS NUTRITION HANDOUTS, RECIPE CARDS, SAFE FOOD HANDLING GUIDELINES, AND VIRTUAL DEMO SESSIONS TO FAMILIES PARTICIPATING IN THE PORCH-FRESH PROGRAM.
