THE PURPOSE AND MISSION OF LOS INDIOS DE SAN GABRIEL (DBA GABRIELENO BAND OF MISSION INDIANS) IS TO RESPECT, PROTECT AND PRESERVE THE SPRIT OF THE ANCESTORS THAT HAVE PAST AWAY AND FUTURE GENERATIONS TO COME BY UPLIFTING, PROMOTING AND PRESERVING THE HISTORY, LANGUAGE, TRADITIONS AND CULTRURES OF THE GABRIELENO PEOPLE.

PRESERVATION OF CULTURE AND ARTIFACTS (MONITORING) - LOS INDIOS DE SAN GABRIEL INC WORK WITH ORGANIZATIONS MONITORING VARIOUS CONSTRUCTION SITES TO OBSERVE DISTRUBED SOIL FOR EVIDENCE OF HUMAN REMIANS AND ARTIFACTS. THE ORGANIZATION ACTS AS UNPAID CONSULTANTS TO LOCAL MUSEUMS AND UNIVERSITITES IN MANAGING THEIR COLLECTIONS OF OUR ARTIFACTS AND HAS CINTINUED THE PROCESS OF PRESERVING THE CULTURE OF THE GABRIELENO INDISANS BY GATHERING DOCUMENTATION AND AUDIO THROUGH LIBRARIES, UNIVERSITIES AND MUSEUMS. THE ORGANIZATION UTILIZES A CERIFIED GENELOGIST TO DOCUMENT TRIBAL MEMBERSHIP AND GATHER FAMILY TREES GOING BACK TO THE 1700'S. THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTS AND/OR PARTICIPATES IN NUMEROUS PRESENTATIONS AT LOCAL MUSEUMS AND HISTORICAL EVENETS EDUCATING THE GENERAL PUBLIC ABOUT THE CULTURE OF THE GABRIELENOS.THE TRIBE STRIVES TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF IT'S MEMBERS LIVES BY PROVIDING ECONOMIC OPPORUNITIES AS WELL AS ACHIEVING FEDERAL RECOGNITION. THE TRIBE ALSO STRIVES TO PROTECT THE CULTURE AND TRADITIONAL PRACTICES OF THE GABRIELENO PEOPLE BY PROTECTING AND PRESERVING THE TRIBE'S SACRED SITES AND RESOURCES AS GOVERNED BY THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA ALONG WITH EDUCATING IT'S MEMBERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC
